We would have cleared enough cap room to get above the 4.25 level that Golden State can match. I believe that MJ was in the same restricted category as Mobley, and Rashard were under, in that GS could match any offer up to 4.25 mil a year. Any more then that and he is a true free agent. If the Rockets...REALLY...REALLY wanted the guy, they would have offered more then the exception. My guess is that Rudy and Co. wanted MJ, but not as a do or die deal. I think Rudy wanted him ......kinda !!! Actions speak louder then words. DaDakota
I agree. Iwish they would have gave him that 4.5 and let taylor walk, but everyone said Taylor had good "chemistry" with the Rockets. Oh well
if ifs and buts were acorns and nutts we'ed all be happy squirrels...my youth football coach told us that way back when and it was good stuff...
My old football coach used to try and confuse us by saying "Now pair off into threes...". I don't know why the hell I said that....
I don't think they really wanted him either. They would have been talking to him all summer if they did. Even when Taylor first went down, CD said something to the effect of "we don't have any other roster spots open right now" when asked who they could get to replace Mo. Since the league basically said, "here, you can have Jackson", the Rockets said "Okay", but I don't think they wanted to put any effort into getting him outside of having him fall into their laps.
I think they wanted him...that was evident when they offered him the contract exactly 14 seconds after receiving the medical exception. I'm not sure, but I think what they offered was all they could give him.
Rockeman95, At that time you are correct, but BEFORE They signed Moochie, and MO T etc..they could have offered him MORE then Golden State could match. I think they wanted him...in a kinda sort of way. DaDakota
Well, of course they probably wanted Mo more than Jackson...most people on this board would. They also wanted to save some money for Moochie, but I don't think that means they really didn't want Jackson, they just didn't think he was worth all that much, especially at the cost of losing Moochie (which I disagree with).
Obviously, they wanted Jackson if they already had Mo and Rice. And they'd rather have Olajuwon than him. And they wouldn't want him for more money than he's worth. No, they didn't REALLY want him -- not that bad, nor did we want him that bad. But they wanted him $24 million worth even after getting Mo and Mooch and Rice.
I would have rather had Jackson then Mo Taylor. At least Jackson is a low post presence who can get rebounds. I didn't like what Mo T brings to the table anyway, he is softer then Chris Mihm. DaDakota
