Call me an excitable fan, but I go way back with this franchise. Looking at what is happening on the court, ( yes it's preseason), the thrashing they put on a reasonable version of the World Champioins, in their house none the less, the slow to jell pre-season games on the two Super Studs, no play yet from Bonzi, ( except as a playah), Alston's blooming, ( this is just about the right time for his game to evolve), and the incredible talent that has slipped into town, I cannot honestly think of another R team that has this much potential. Agree? Refresh my memory please!
too bad our superstar SF isn't playing like himself. i know it's preseason, but he has looked very tentative in every game. not only that, his jump shot isnt really falling either. besides, we had the best team ever assembled about 5 years ago...just ask Les.
[QUOTEbesides, we had the best team ever assembled about 5 years ago...just ask Les.[/QUOTE] very funny........
I was thinking the same thing. We may not have a player the stature of Hakeem, but talent wise, top to bottom, this team is STACKED..... I can not believe the Rockets revamped their roster in one year from an aging slow one to an athletic and talented one, and with better shooters. This team has guys in the 13-15 position on the bench that could be rotation players on other teams. As for cuts....I think the last 2 are Sura and Bowen........ DD
Call me a realist. I'm excited about this year's team but aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves here? On the surface it does seem that this is one of the deepest teams the Rockets have fielded. But just look at the 95 Rockets... Dream Drexler Horry Cassell Just those 4 alone are some pretty serious skills. Horry and Cassell alone easily outclass any of the role players we have on the team now. Yeah the 95 Rockets team certainly didn't have the bench depth but I would say that is more than offset by the core players.
NAaaaaaa 93-94 is my pick 94-95 gives them a run for their money This Team . . .I'll wait until May to say if they rank in the top 5 Rocket RIver
On pure talent alone, the 85-86 team was pretty amazing, too. Dream, a healthy Sampson, John Lucas (b4 the suspension). Above average players at the other main positions (Reid, Lloyd, McCray). Two other respectable bench players (Petersen, Mitch Wiggins). I like this year's team a lot, but I say wait until we see how the chemistry develops. I like our bench for the regular season, but I think it's a little superfluous for the playoffs, when we'll trim down the rotation.
The 96-97 squad had the most pure talent, on Olajuwon, Barkley, and Drexler's last year in the top tier alone. They weren't a strong defensive squad, but man could they kill you with the big three, sharpshooters Maloney and EJ, and a still productive Kevin Willis off the bench. I think Mario Elie had his highest scoring season that year too.
I can only give my opinion in about six months!! But things are looking good and my hopes are high for a great entertaining season from the 06/07 Rockets!
This is the best collection of skills and talent 1-15 that we have ever had. Whether it is the best TEAM assembled, jury is out.
