With the acquisition of Rice, It is doubtful to see three guard used on a regular basis. The loss of Shandon gives use an actual starting three. Francis, Mobley, and Moochie will have to fill up 96 minutes with Morris getting garbage time. If the rockets played its three guards at the same time for extended play, the rockets will have to play three forward for an extended period which I see as undesirable.

Hill if signed would make more feasible to run three guard more as the rockets would have a big SG option (Morris) or a small SG option (Hill) off the bench depending on the opponent.

I really enjoyed three guard play the past two season, but Rice shouldn't change the team to much considering he may have more guard skills than Shandon. I will miss having Moochie, Francis, and Mobley on the court, though since most teams don't have enough quick defenders to guard all three effectively.

I think the Rockets will still use the three guard line up next year.

    Mooch
    Steve
    Cat
    Rice
    Taylor

That is a pretty tough team to match up with, unless you have a dominating C.

When the rockets do go three guard, I expect Griffin or Taylor to be the PF and Cato or oeilpere's pivot man to be the center. My big concern with three guard is that over a 82 game season it will wear out the only three guards the rocks have.

I am not sure Griffin and Cato wouldn't allow the defense to sag in a stop the three guards from slashing. Didn't Walt play the PF and MoT or Dream play the center last year when the three guard offense was most effective? Isn't it imperative that the big men be able to spread the defense for that offense to really flourish?

I wouldn't want to use Rice at PF because he would make smallball even smaller. I would also like to use Rice to come in for francis and become the primary scorer to rest the other scorers on the team. I would like cato and Griff on the three ball team to help juice up the running game with some turnovers.

    Usually.

But with the three guards, if you try and run the iso, the other two guards can spread the floor, and the two big men could do their rebounding/boxing out.
