I think it has to be an average of 2+ for every game your team has played....I don't think he will come close to qualifying...THIS year.

Now that is the Lidge I like to see (no walks). Ofcourse, he didn't face ANYONE that could really do anything against an mlb pitcher. BUT, atleast this could give him more confidence. (watch him come out tomorow with 2 straight walks and a Hit batsman.

10 strikes thrown and only 1 ...yes ONE ball thrown.

You have to have 3.1 plate appearances (not at bats) per game spread out over 162 games (in a normal season). This comes out to about 502.

Does a walk still count as a plate appearance?

Yep...so essentially you could walk 501 times in a season and get a single in another appearance and officially bat 1.000.

although the win was great, i'm still worried about their situational hitting. once again, there were a couple of chances to break the game open but they failed to deliver. it's especially heartbreaking when those chances come with the middle of the lineup.

Not every game can have a lot of runs and taking out Luke Scott makes a big difference in the lineup.

They need to find a place for Lamb too.

As for pitching, if Hirsch can do a good job, I like our starting 5.

    Oswalt
    Clemens
    Petitte
    Backe
    Hirsch

And having Nieve in the bullpen helps a ton there too.....they could do it again !!!

Wilson seemed pretty happy to give some of his bats away last night.
I'm going tonight and im pretty stoked about seeing oswalt.
I hope preston gives me one of his bats. Maybe he'll give me his glove, or shoes, or a ball, maybe his jersey, it just depends what he throws in the stands tonight

Yes. A walk is a plate appearance and counts toward your ops. Everything else counts as an At Bat (AB) and goes toward your batting average

By the way, what happened to Hunter Pence? Is he still ripping up the minors?

Sacrifices and hits by pitch don't count as at bats.

    Rule 10.02

...no time at bat shall be charged against a player when
    (i) He hits a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly
(ii) He is awarded first base on four called balls
(iii) He is hit by a pitched ball
(iv) He is awarded first base because of interference or obstruction.

Don't know the order, but Scott/Taveras/Huff in the OF; Ensberg/AE/Biggio/Berkman in the IF; Ausmus behind the plate.
