This was a great display of human endurance & mental toughness. The guy was chained in that tank for 177 hours straight and then spent 7 minutes underwater to unchain himself.

But, he still didn't achieve his goal. So I guess he's human afterall.

If he would have 'broken' a record that would have required verification wouldn't it...

By the way, how can you be drowned alive? If you drown don't you die and if you die isn't it hard to be alive?

I should have put "Spoiler" in there.....

....now that's new, a Cylon apparently fell in the bathtub and eloctrocuted a hot chick. Can't wait to see how ShatnerCaruso handles this mystery.

Anyways for those interested - the world record holder in all out "breath holding" is Tom Sietas at 14min 15sec.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but according to the tv show and the host, stuart scott, he didn't break the record. I guess anyone who isn't impressed can stay under water for longer than 7 minutes.

chuck norris would have only expended 1/10 of his lung capacity by the 8:57 mark but gotten out anyway because chuck norris has better **** to do.

What I mean is David Blaine is a magician doing a trick.

God bless that show. luckily i was watching the beginning and saw the chicks (one who even went topless for a second and the other who got in the shower), but unfortunately i missed "the scream" that i love so much to start the theme song.

But... even if he had broken the record... how does that benefit humanity?

Give me the guy who spent the most hours in space performing experiments/research that will help shape the future... in fact, that guy was a whole lot worse off (physically) than David Blaine.

Did you watch it? You may be right, but I seriously don't think this was a magic trick.

I think it proves to humanity that the human body can be pushed to limits often thought impossible. But, I see your point.

In the end, for him, its all about making money.

Why does it have to benefit humanity? Does everything with entertainment value benefit humanity?

A lot of his endeavors show us what the body is capable of if pushed to the limit. I actually find it quite an accomplishment.

The 14 minutes was done after ingesting pure oxygen. That makes a huge difference. Sietas has the record without oxygen: 8'58".
