NEW YORK, May 4 – Chris Paul of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets headlines a talented group of rookies named to the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Team, the NBA announced today.
Paul, the only unanimous First Team selection, is joined by Toronto’s Charlie Villanueva (56 points), Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut (55 points), Utah’s Deron Williams (46 points) and New York’s Channing Frye (45 points).

Paul became the fifth rookie to win the T-Mobile Rookie of the Month award for every month of his rookie season, joining Cleveland’s LeBron James, Denver’s Carmelo Anthony and San Antonio's Tim Duncan and David Robinson. Paul, who led all rookies with 21 double-doubles, averaged rookie highs of 16.1 points and 7.8 assists while also recording 5.1 rebounds and 2.24 steals.

Villanueva topped the Eastern Conference rookies in scoring, averaging 13.0 points on .463 shooting and added 6.4 rpg. Bogut, the number one pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, led all rookies in rebounding (7.0 rpg) and blocks (.83 bpg) and tallied 9.4 ppg on .533 shooting. Williams averaged 10.8 points and ranked third among rookies in assists with 4.5 per game. Frye led all rookie centers in scoring with 12.3 ppg on .477 shooting and added 5.8 rpg.

The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Indiana’s Danny Granger (43 points), Charlotte’s Raymond Felton (40 points), Houston’s Luther Head (28 points), Atlanta’s Marvin Williams (15 points) and Boston’s Ryan Gomes (14 points).

The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.

Building upon its already strong appeal to the nation’s youth and as the Official Wireless Services Partner of the NBA, T-Mobile is showcasing the NBA’s youngest players -- the Rookies -- through the NBA’s Rookie program. Highlights include the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge, an All-Star competition between NBA rookies and second-year players, and rookie awards presentations including the T-Mobile Rookie of the Year. As part of a unique package of NBA-themed offerings, T-Mobile users will be receiving special content on NBA rookies providing insights into NBA life both on and off the court.

Attached are the results of the balloting for the 2005-06 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie teams:

How did Deron Williams get picked over Raymond Felton? Felton had a better year.

How is this possible when Anthony and James were both drafted in the same year?

i didn't want to be the one to ask that because I felt there was going to be something simple I'm missing.

It's simple! They're in different conferences. Anthony is in the Western conference and James is in the Eastern conference.

Oh, so they award each conference and not the league as a whole. OK, that makes sense now.

Congrats to Luther...he definitely deserved it...he's one of the better shooters and defenders of this year's rookie class, IMO...I hope the Rockets try and develop him as a point guard because, as a 2, he'd only be a spot-up shooter, where at the 2 he'd be able to use his quickness and peneration more...
