a similar squad... Mavs do not have good centers, just 2 OK centers, but they have Dirk and a good PG Jason Terry (same concept applies to the Spurs Rasho Nesterovic/Nazr Mohammed)

Perhaps we can trade Yao to get a pair of Center/PG or PF/PG (center is not that important in today's NBA anyways)

Not sure if one of the following will work out:

Yao for Jason Terry + Josh Howard, or
Yao for Tony Parker + Rasho Nesterovic/Nazr Mohammed

Either of them will not only bring us to the promised land, also possibly destory one of those contenders.

Are you sure you don't want Yao to be traded to the Lakers?

I think you're underestimating Yao's value. Maybe we could get the Mav's to throw in Adrian Griffin.

Nah, let's do this. Trade both Yao and Tmac for good complimentary shooting guard and a power forward, and build around David Wesley, who is our other allstar based on the ballots.

It's stuff like this that give Yao fans a bad name. It's one thing to scream and moan about how the Yao should be traded to a team and a city that "deserves" him (which is dreadfully annoying), but it's a whole different story to make it seem like trading Yao for below value is some sort of favor for Houston. That kind of transparent, patronizing B.S. is just insulting.

that is all we can get from him? i think he is worth more than that. jason terry or tony parker will not get us anywhere near the promised land.

Wait a sec. Player values are debatable and I am not suggesting Yao for any particular two. It is just a trade concept.

Talking about values though, let me ask you this: switching the 2 main forces Dirk and Tmac between Mavs and Rockets, which team would be better?

    The dreaded form returns, again!

    —————————————————————-

    Your post advocates a

    (X) trade ( ) FA signing ( ) draft ( ) personnel change ( ) game strategy change

in order to solve the Rockets’ problems. Your idea will not work. Here is why it won’t work. (One or more of the following may apply to your particular idea, and it may have other flaws influenced by recent league rule changes).

[X] It will create problems for us offensively
[X] It will make our defense weaker
[X] Team chemistry will be fractured as a result
    [X] We can’t afford it
[ ] The other team(s) would never agree to it
[ ] The NBA would never allow it to happen
[X] It would be unpopular with the fans
[X] Requires us to give up too much
[ ] We already have enough talent/depth at that position
[X] That player would never agree to such a deal
[X] Our team owner would never pay for it
[X] This does not help us in the long run

Specifically, your plan fails to account for

[ ] NBA league rules expressly prohibiting it
    [X] Salary cap limitations
[X] Lack of depth/options on the trade/FA market at that position
[X] Known limitations of our roster players
[X] Our team’s identity and game strategy
    [X] Lack of rebounding
    [X] Lack of offensive production
[ ] Need for a true point guard
    [ ] Lack of a dependable 3rd scoring option
    [X] Lack of defensive ability
[X] Lack of inside/low post presence
[ ] Lack of perimeter shooting
    [ ] Loss of athleticism
[ ] Inconsistency in the production of player(s) involved
[ ] History of injury problems
    [ ] Poor leadership qualities
[X] Impending clash of superstar egos
[ ] Depletion of youth on the roster
    [ ] Lack of league/playoff experience
[ ] Attitude and personality problems with player(s) involved
[X] The need to add more cash to Les Alexander’s wallet
    [ ] Overblown media hype
[X] Poor matchups with potential playoff opponents
[ ] Poor depth of next year’s draft pool

And the following philosophical objections may also apply:

[X] Ideas similar to yours are easy to come up with, yet have never worked in the past
[X] You can’t win a championship without good defense
[X] You can’t win a championship without dependable offensive options
[X] You can’t build a successful team without strong chemistry
[ ] We only have a limited amount of time to build around our superstars
[ ] Too many long-term contracts hurt you in the long run
[X] It’s a dumb idea to attempt to rebuild a team in the middle of the season
[ ] Players should be allowed to play to their own strengths
[X] Feel-good measures do nothing to solve the problem
[X] Doing it this way doesn’t make us strong enough
[ ] Tanking is for losers, and results in a losing culture that we may never recover from

Furthermore, this is what I think about you:

[ ] Sorry dude, but I don’t think it would work.
[ ] This is a stupid idea, and you’re a stupid person for suggesting it.
[X] Nice try, moron! I’m going to find out where you live and burn your house down!

Just for the sake of argument -- your argument is the other teams' make up is superior to Rox without them having Yao, so why would they want Yao?

im not sure how much the Rockets GM would want to trade the only center that is close to 20/10 and also the leading vote getter in the allstar game to a team in our own division for a guard.

im not sure but lets see where this thread goes.

I agree. This kind of idiotic threads really make Yao's folks look bad.

This is indeed, a pointless reply... let me say this again,

I am NOT suggesting Yao for any particular two, just a trade concept.

How about, is KG+Madson <=> Yao good for Rockets??
is Dwight Howard + Nelson good for Rockets??
    etc.

The point is, rather than sticking with Yao or even Tmac, maybe we can be more creative. Last time I checked, Detroit does not have a single player with 20+ PPG (maybe Hamilton slightly over that), yet they are the best team.

You're missing the point. It's not about having a good center...it's about having a quality big man. You need one to win. Dallas has Nowitzki and San Antonio has Duncan. It's arguable whether Nowitzki truly plays like a prototypical big man or if he's truly "great," but he's still a pretty good one.

Regardless of whether we get a power forward or a center in return...we have to get equal value and size for Yao. You never trade big for small unless the talent levels are heavily in your favor.
