I spoke with Sarah Joseph at the Rockets office today, and one of the services they would like to offer the displaced individuals is assistance in developing career documents. She said they need 52 people as of right now to help enter data into a form that would serve as a resume (there are a number of individuals who work in fields that require a resume). You don't necessarily have to know about or be in the careers field- as long as you can type and write fairly well, that is all they need. I've already put the word out to some temp agencies in Houston, but they would need people from 7 AM to 9 PM on Wednesday and 7 AM to 3 PM on Thursday. I know this is a great deal to ask, so I totally understand if individuals are not able to do this. However, if there's any way possible you can help, that would be great. Her email addresses are sarahj@rocketball.com or sarahgj@earthlink.net. Alternately, if you know of anyone who works at a staffing agency in Houston who might able to help, that would be great. Thank you very much for your time.
I wanted to bump this to the top - and also note that the Rockets organization will be taking donations all day tomorrow at the Toyota Center. Here are some messages from Coach Van Gundy, Mike James and David Wesley LIST OR RECOMMENDED DONATION ITEMS: Baby Formula Diapers Sanitary Wipes Peanut Butter Bread Canned Vegetables Soups Raman Noodles Can Openers Hot Plates Bottled Water Pillows Bedding Stuffed Animals Toys School Supplies Clothes Footwear
Thanks! Hey, if I'm going to drive 9 hours from Lubbock to Houston to do this, I'd better have some help!!! Just kidding. There are 98 staffing/employment agencies in Houston- even if we can get one person from each of those companies to volunteer for a day, that would be great.
I went down there yesterday - took clothing and boxes. Saw JVG with his little girl. Bill Worrell and David Wesley were unloading cars. Good stuff.
