Should we be interested in Doug Christie if waived?

    Well, let's see:

Christie is a 35-year-old SG/SF who for the last couple of years has averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game.

How about Gerald Wallace, who's a 23-year-old SF quick enough to D up against other teams' 2-guards when need be. Last year, the first in which he's gotten decent minutes, he averaged 11/5.5/2. He's faster, quicker, younger, and shoots at a higher %. About the only thing Christie does better is shoot 3's.

So, do we add a downside-of-his career player who's best days are in his rearview mirror, or a young kid who will probably be every bit as good as Christie used to be, and maybe better. And we need help at SF but have a logjam at guard.

Hmmm... that's a tough call. Man, I'm glad I'm not GM.

I think those of you who want Christie remember his days with the Kings when he could lock down some pretty good offensive players. But he hasn't been doing that in the last couple of years. Let some inferior team with a stupid GM take him -- like Weisbrod did last year, for example.

If he could play like he did in his early years at Sacramento, he wouldn't have been traded and he wouldn't about to be cut.

You said "There are better (players) who are less injury-prone who could be (had for less)".
You named one player who I believe is already signed who we could not of gotten for less. So I'm still waiting.

We would have to clear to roster spots on the bench to get him. One for him and the other for his wife...tough call.

Speaking of smoking. Get yourself checked into rehab right away.

We don't need a non-scoring player at the two. We have that already. SO he is a bigger player. We can do better with a Demarr Johnson or Gerald Wallace.

Wow. .426 career. That is a great career shooting percentage for a three point shooter. Oh. Wait!! That is his total FG%. Can't wait to see him lighting up the TC. Hey he actually went down to .242 in three point % and had went down three consecutive years in scoring as well as 3pt%. Thanks for the link.
I am really encouraged about him now!! :)

i remember suggesting we get christie back in '97 or '98 as a young stopper with range, and it sounded funny to people then...

now he's done and people want him!

three reasons to beleive he's not christie of 2002:

    1. injuries/age
    2. underperformed enough to get traded
    3. arranged to have a reality show on TV as a precursor to his post-NBA career transition

Good Post. Look at his stats, he hasn't had a good season since 2002

All you people who want Christie should just say no to crack! This is not Fantansy basketball. Stop looking at stats and awards when thinking about acquiring players. Remeber what JVG said. He basically stated that we need to be very careful on getting the right players for this team. For you defensive team award buffs, this means we might need to pass on the Payton and Christie. Both are two old and no where near their prime.

If we had Christie, he'd do his hand signals, and Mutombo would be wagging his finger even more (at Jackie Christie), and Yao would be throwing his hands up in utter confusion. JVG would fry his noodle at the chaos that would ensue.

the COMETS could use some help!
Yeah Tina Thompson and Sheryl Swoopes need
    another woman on their team!
Christie would be great. His wife would start a fight with the entire Comets team cause they were looking at him.

When Cuttino left and Christie replaced him, the Magic started losing lots of games.
Plus, Steve couldn't make any plays cause he couldnt understand if Doug was calling some plays with his hands or just signaling his wife that he loves her.

I feel for Steve, you lost your best friend, and you get some wimp in return!

We already have a Christie type player. Sura.

We have to be careful in getting too many athletic players that don't have outside range. This is why we got Luther. He has an outside shot, inside scoring, one-on-one ability and defense.

Christie only has good defense and a limited inside ability (and sometimes fast-break ability -- depending on what PG he's playing with). But his outside shooting is lacking and he has weak one-on-one skills for a SG. Plus, he's going on 36! Too old/slow for a guard - we need speed at the 1 and 2. Not slowness.

    I'll pass.

He was All-Defensive Second Team in 2004 and All-Defensive First Team in 2003 (stringing together four consecutive team appearances from 2001-2004).

His performance last season was off, but he was injured. The only question, then, is the status of that injury, as well as his general physical condition (at 35, even if not injured, you can easily fall apart within a year).

I, frankly, don't know the answers to either of those two questions, and am sure that most (if not all) of you don't either.

If he isn't a step too slow and his injuries were the reason for his poor performance last year(which may be the case, given that he still averaged over 1.5 steals in 29 mins), then he's by all means just what we're looking for.

If you look at the four seasons prior to last, he's averaged (roughly) 10 points, 4 boards, 4 dimes, and 2 steals, shooting 37% from 3, making all-defensive teams four years in a row, while playing on a contender.

For the vet's min, if he's healthy, of course I'd take him (and if not, then not).
