I expected him to be a lost soul. He looks like he belongs. Projecting '04 AA to this early season to next season, and I repeat 'WOW!'
You lost me. EDIT: Are you saying he's going to put up the same numbers next year in the majors that he did at AA last year? If so, that's quite a stretch.
That's fast progression. I could see Willy being a very much improved player next year and becoming a star.
he looks like he belongs somewhat, though he still looks lost in the OF sometimes.. and is hitting in the ausmus range for now..
good thing because i just traded for him in my fantasy lge The best thing that came out of this win, other than the actual W was Lidge's save (IMO). He needed to get back on track.
I remember when we had the best bullpen in the majors..... Funny how continually getting rid of top closers has led us to having one of the weaker bullpens, who'd of thunk it?
Springers numbers have actually been pretty good this year. Besides the homer (and there's really no shame in giving up a bomb to Carlos Delgado), Springer was victimized by an infield hit and a pop-fly double. Qualls is the one who came in and threw a meat ball to Lowell. He's the one I'm worried about right now. He has had several bad outings in a row.
A little more info: Before tonight, Springer's ERA was 2.13 and had a batting averaga against in the .210s. If you're looking to lay blame for this loss, how about looking at a lineup that couldn't get more than one run off of Brian freakin' Moehler
yeah, what a joke. dont' ever bring the guy in. right, we have a team, and we can't just use lidge the whole time. it's just the way a team goes. go with the guy who has been decent so far and gotta hope he can come with it again. don't have the talent is all.
They should send Chad Qualls down to AA. Man that dude sucks. Seems like everytime he is in the game he gives up 3+ runs.
We "got rid" of Billy Wagner and who else? You can't say Dotel was a top closer, because when he was put in that closer role, he sucked. That's a big reason WHY he was traded. As a setup man, Dotel was great, but the timing of things were such that he was the closer heir apparent, and when he didn't work out in that role, they moved him for talent. The problem with bullpens is that to a large degree, they are crapshoots. Scott freaking Linebrink had a stellar year last season out of the bullpen. That guy could barely break our roster when he was in Houston. Every year, you see players that have great seasons in relief and never again repeat anything close to that performance. It's why I think the Astros were just hoping to sort of roll the dice and look for some breakthrough seasons from their younger bullpen arms. It ain't happening, and I doubt it will happen.
