I hope they've already contacted the artist to start on the Tmac and Yao statues.

Speaking of statues, how weak is it that the Astros put up statues of Biggio and Bagwell while they are still playing? And they put them up a few years ago. Has that ever been done before.

While we're out it, why not have a movie too? Call it something like "Year of the Dream." Cast it as a story of Akeem as a cultural bridge between Nigeria and the US - make a lot out of how he was seen as an underdog coming unheralded to a major US college program and leading it to the final four....

Or why not have a 94-95 championship team statue w/ Hakeem in it? Or is that still a religious thing?

in Islam, it is against faith to idolize someone in the form of statues...

but there was talk af an art piece, "the essence of Dream", something that represents Hakeem Olajuwon

Exactly, I think some large banner with a picture of the ENTIRE championship teams (so as for Hakeem not to stand out) would be an ideal thing.

I did hear about this originally too when Hakeem declined the offer of a statue. Anyone know what the status of the mural is?

A banner is too temporary....a mural would be more permanent and a nice way to recognize the first pro team to bring us a championship.

lets hope one of our Rockets employees here knows something about this.....unfortunately, we lost our main higher management contact guy...

They are having problems with that Stockton statue. It keeps falling down.

the statue is more of a 3D figure with human likeness to it, but most Muslims have no problem with pictures/paintings, except for a few.

But again, it is really mostly a personal preference on Hakeem's part, I am not sure what HE would think about having a huge mural painted for him.

I, however, as a Rocket fan, hope he is OK with it.

Still, all I need is the memories that are left with me watching the Dream play, that is good enough for me, that is how I honor him.:)

His jersey hangs from the rafters. Why not just make a HUGE statue of his jersey? I think it would be pretty cool.
Even a statue of just "34" would be cool.
Hell, engrave it into the damn building.
    That would be super cool!

    Excellent idea!

How come I didn't come up with that?

Best idea so far, IMHO, and very doable, THIS is the loophole we were looking for:D

How about a statue of Dream standing and the entire team on his back like in the KG commercial. It would be considered art and would also be so true!

No, make a David Robinson statue. The pose is when he got faked out of his shoes by Hakeem.

I've got another idea. How about a bat signal like they have on the floor when the lights go out. Using "34". And if there is a way to get that in the sky, then you gotta do it.
