Negative posts all around........Is this JVG and Ewings last year...Trade Yao....T-Mac's free-throw problem......Yaos's elbow.........The PG problem.......No chemistry!!!!!!!........................You would think that we were not a title/upper playoff contender!!!!!!! Let's judge this team when they are playing for real......We are a young and upcoming team!!! With 2 Superstars!!!!! GO ROCKETS!!!!!!
Even though it's preseason, it's obvious they don't really have that great a chemistry. I think they needed more time to work on their gameplan.
Preseason or not, if the Rockets can't score 85+ a game this year then there screwed. The Gundy factor is ruining my favorite basketball team.
I am not trying to be negative. I support the Rockets always. However, I have had a bad feeling about JVG, since he got here. Fact - he is a very good defensive coach. He is not a good offensive mind. I am not going by the preseason, but all of last year as well. Everything we hear about him is how great a defensive coach he is and how he stresses defense. I think, the Rockes should adopt the coaching formation used in football. JVG can be the defensive coordinator/head coach, but they also need an offensive coordinator. Defense does win championships, but you still must score 1 more point than the other team.
Eh... the negative posts just indicate that we're a fan base that is very hungry for a championship again and very anxious for the season to start. -- droxford
I'm almost positive that no one would be saying "it's just the preseason," if the Rockets were playing well and kicking everyone's butt. It's WAY to early to think the Rockets will be playing like this all season long but it's not like we could just brush this aside and think they'll just turn it on in the regular season, they really do have a lot of work to do.
I'm gonna agree. Yes, its preseason and it will take some time. But if we continue our offensive woes, like last year, we aren't going to have that good of a season. JVG better learn how to get the most out of Yao/TMac offensively or there will be some unhappy players and one unhappy owner.
Heck even I understand "this is PRESEASON". I usually just say it to myself in Spanish, to make sure I am understanding it: "Esta es PRE temporada". Yeah, ok, yes, I understand. Cool stuff. Forgive my ESL explanation. [edit] I think it's The Curse of the Gundino
not only is it just preseason..it's just preseason on a team that was just put together! if this was a team that had been playing together for a few years and were struggling, then maybe the preseason would give you cause for alarm. but if you're expecting the Rockets to come out of the gate with a big winning streak or looking like a great team, then i think your expectations of this team are way too high.
Additions Bob Sura Charlie Ward Dikembe Mutombo Ryan Bowen Tracy McGrady Juwan Howard Reece Gaines Tyronn Lue Subtractions Adrian Griffin Eric Piatkowski Mike Wilks Steve Francis Cuttino Mobley Kelvin Cato Half of your squad from last year is gone and it takes time to gel. You JVG haters make me sick.
The following is not meant to be pessimistic - just cautious skepticism. JVG and the organization knows that outside of McGrady & Yao, the Rockets' players do not match up well against their competition in the conference. What they (Rockets) are hoping for is that the sum of the parts (team) exceeds that of the individual pieces (players). They will either succeed or fail with this approach. At this point, it's simply far too early to tell. I'm with OddsOn in that we'll have a clearer picture come December.
Other teams have completely revamped their rosters and not having the scoring problems the Rockets are having.
I dont think their teams (lakers) are baised around D like ours is. As hard as it was for our team to score points last year, this year we have a new roster so you can imagin that itll take som time for things to come together.
scoring in preseason scoring in the regular season or playoffs are two entirely different propositions. most of the preseason is testing different lineups...seeing what works...seeing what doesn't work. scoring averages in the preseason are not an indicator for the regular season. again...if you guys think this team is going to come out like gangbusters, i think you're going to be disappointed. i hope i'm wrong. but it took the first Rockets championship nucleus about 4 years to play together and put it all together. this team has yet to play a regular season game together, and we're already passing judgment. i think they need more time gelling...and i'm not sure this team, in its entirety, is the "final product" of what the Rockets hope to build with McMing.
Do some of you remember the eternal patience that some posters had with Steve Francis. Like, "its only been three years, give him a little more time." When you really like a player or team, patience is easy; when you don't, it is near impossible. Given that this is a completely different team, they will need time to work out the kinks. I expect we will have a clearer picture by All Star break. If they haven't made significant progress by then, I will join the critique. For now, they get a pass. However, individually, Ming has to show more aggressiveness now (after the elbow heals). The "Giant Stay Puft Marshmellow Man" impression has to end. His performance in the Games showed that he "has it." No excuses.
I'm not so sure that wanting a team with two top 10 players on it to break 90 is expecting them to come out like gangbusters.
