The voter registration deadline for Texas is this coming Monday October 4th.

You can start the process online here or here or here.

Voter Registration Applications are used for new applicants, cancelled registrants, and for changes to a registered voter's record. Voter registration information may be verified on this site under the voter registration database.

Voter Registration Applications may be obtained several ways:
You may download an application which you may complete and mail to the Harris County Tax Office. This document is saved in Adobe PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat reader to open it. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat reader, you can download it free from the Adobe Web site .

Download an application in English , Spanish , or Vietnamese

You may request an application online.
You may request an application from this office via email. (tax_office@hctx.net)
You may call the Voter Registration Department at 713-368-VOTE (8683) to request an application by mail.
You may stop by any of the 15-area Tax Offices in person to register to vote.
You may also visit any of the state agencies listed below which are designated as voter registration sites per Texas Election Code, Section 20.001:

    Texas Department of Human Services
    Texas Department of Health
Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental r****dation
Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired
    Texas School for the Deaf
    Texas Commission for the Blind
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
    Texas Rehabilitation Commission
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Each public library, including any branch or service outlet

    Correction.

    First and foremost, VOTE!!!

The polls close at the same time that the broadcast begins, so after voting, go home and watch the Rox trounce the defending champs in THEIR house.

Regardless of who you support -- get out and vote. Because if you don't, some idiot will do it for you.

Hear hear. The only "wasted vote" is the one that does not get cast.

This may be a stupid question, but what do I need to take with me to vote? I mailed in one of the voter applications last week. Do I just take my license to the polls, or do I have to have a voter registration card?

Yeah, I'm 25 and I've never voted before. I figure now is a good time to start.

First off, good for you! People in other countries die for this right that so many here take for granted and don't exercise at all.

Take your voter registration card for the least hassle, take your TDL otherwise.
Note: They are not supposed to ask to see your Driver's License if you have your registration card! You don't have to be able to drive to vote. :)

For those that find voting on election day inconvenient (don't want to miss any of the game, for instance)... take advantage of Early Voting. Apparently it's open to all registered voters and runs for a couple of weeks before the election.

Details on Early Voting for Harris County
    Harris County schedule and locations

Details on Early Voting for Fort Bend County
Fort Bend County schedule and locations

[edit] P.S. I wonder what took so long to figure this out! I've long complained about how unnecessarily inconvenient it is to hold elections on a Tuesday.

I'm not sure either. I wish they'd promote it more... seems like it would help with voter turnout.

For those of you voting for Bush, we already have enough electoral votes and will not really be needing your vote. Thanks anyway. Back to work. Fear me.

    Love,

    Dick Cheney

So if you are sending it in, does it matter when they receive it, or when it is postmarked?
