Thinking about how good of a mentor FVV could be to Sheppard is making me want to draft him even more. The fit is so good it should be overriding any BPA notions at this point

These are my votes. Either or both. You take one with #3 and either trade future assets for the other or put Green up for sale. I trust Whitmore in place of Jalen. He's equally as athletic, is a bulldozer when attacking the rim, is a better outside shooter and will ultimately be a much better defender if he isn't one already.

Udoka, Smith, Amen, Cam and FVV are all business on the court. No show boating or immaturity and that's the culture we need going forward. Jalen doesn't fit that. He's always looking for a chance to pose for the cameras or do a big scream like he's an animal or some nonsense. I hate that. Sheppard and Clingan are all about winning games. If the Rockets can grab both they will have won the draft.

I would take Sheppard 3rd. Then if Clingan is still on the board at 5 offer them jalen for that pick.

I am getting a slightly taller Mark Price vibe from Reed Sheppard. My board is Sarr, Sheppard, Dillingham, Topic, Rischacher, Clingan, Salane

Who knows what Udoka is thinking. I just know he has a strange way of addressing shooting with his lineups when you look at our guy's stats, and who gets more minutes. What I do know is that we need better, and nobody on this team put up numbers like Sheppard in decades in college, and that includes all our guys. His SH-EFF is really good. He could jump straight above that pecking order, and might do it quickly. Jalen wasn't great on defense or shooting, but that sure didn't stop Silas and Ime from giving him a starting role.

As for Sheppard's defense, who knows. If you look at his overall stats, he certainly could be the most overall valuable player. His AST/TO ratio is better than anyone below, and his steals and blocks are a sign he could be as good or much better than some of the others. He has great instincts and high BBIQ. Some of our guys are terrible FT shooters, bad 3 PT shooters, not that great at FG%, have bad AST/To ratios, don't block or steal much, or are selfish with the ball or just inconsistent.

    Sheppard 28.9 min per game
    SH-EFF 0.68
    FG% 53.6 3 PT% 52.1 FT% 83.1

    FG% 44.6 3 PT%38.7 FT% 92.1

    Whitmore 18.7 min per game

4.4 attempts per game on 28.9 mpg. The somewhat small sample size is a bit of a concern. But even if you discount it by 10 percentage point, it's still elite.

Cam Whitmore's 3pt attempts and minutes played in college are very similar to Sheppard, and he shot .343. That translated to .359 on 4.7 attempts in the NBA. Not saying that Reed will have the same kind of progression like Cam. But shooting usually translates well to NBA. Jabari was a good shooter through high school and college. When he struggled to a 30% 3pt shooting in his rookie season, I was not overly concerned. Sure enough, he jumped back up to 36% in his second season.

Considering his height/reach, can RS consistently create off the dribble, and get his shot off in the NBA? What about defensively? How does all this translate at the next level?

I seen somebody bring it up already but the marketing behind Reed could have Tilman smiling as well

Also I can see his boys already wanting to draft Reed

Same size as Curry who has no problem.
And of course his defense will translate, there are several players his size with even less defensive chops that have been good in the NBA.
PBev, Conley, FVV, Stockton. Hell Gary Payton was closer to 6’2 than 6’4

It never is smooth sailing until it is smooth sailing.

Nothing wrong with a coach with the blue collar work and coaching attitude.

Some amateur scouting video that doesn’t line up with other real scouting tape.
Not a great athlete? Stop it.
People shoot right over him? Yeah those block numbers don’t agree.

Im fine with people not wanting him but there’s no reason to flat out lie.

Yes. Someone posted some highlight reel of him and I would package up something like the 3rd + 1st or something. Dudes 7’2 and I would like to make a move to get someone like that

Man I actually want Sheppard, but people need to really stop hyping him as some huge future star, it's a massive disservice. He's likely to fill a similar role in the NBA as JJ Reddick. That's a solid player that you'd love to have, but he's not this huge gamechanger. What part of "this is a weak draft and there are no superstar prospects" aren't people understanding?

It's funny when someone posts a few plays like that. You could do that with every single player in the league right now where they turned over a ball or had a shot blocked. You could make a clip from every player on our team every single game where they did those things. I've seen far far more minutes of Reed's shooting, passing, and defense with him making great plays.

Ouch. I thought his game compared to Wagner, but that's just from the few highlight videos I saw. If he can't hit the 3 consistently I'd pass on that.

The only thing similar to JJ is shooting and they’re both white.
Literally nothing else is the same profile.
    It’s a lazy comparison.
    Sheppard is an elite defender.

Well that won't make us a contender next year. Not with our poor 3 PT shooting in this league. That's crazy. Sure, tall guys are great, but it's not our biggest need. That could be addressed later on if needed, and I don't want to give up next year's first round pick. We could use that in a trade combo if needed next season.
