You can't groove a FB there Verlander should know better, throw the breaking ball if he misses and he walks...so what.... DD
We so desperately need Alvarez and Bregman to give us consistent production. We’ve all railed against Bregman and rightfully so but Alvarez has been a below average player and a far below average 3 hole hitter for a large portion of the season. The meat of our lineup can’t continue to provide next to no meaningful production. If Alvarez is injured sit him down.
Should of pulled Verlander before he just went 100% down the middle strike pitches. Still a chance to win the series.
Diaz needs a break today vs RHP for rest and performance. He's really struggling lately -- last 7 games hitting .185 (one XBH) and went 0-4 last night with a K. Caratini is a good replacement.
While I don't disagree with any of this, pitching has been and continues to be our biggest problem. Until that becomes solid, no amount of offense will take us deep in the playoffs, or maybe not, to the playoffs at all.
So Jake Meyers statcast page is....nice. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jake-meyers-676694?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb His quality of contact has been solid all year long (not that anybody in the organization seemed to care), but over this recent hot stretch it's elevated into outright sexy territory. It was apparent almost from game one that his exit velocity ceiling was higher than it's been since the injury. I don't think he's "this" good offensively, but his good results so far are 100% supported by the underlying metrics. Hopefully they will finally let him play everyday so we can get a grasp on who the real Jake Meyers is.
When is McCormick back? Does Loperfido actually play 1B? Our solution at 1B is Loperfido. At that point we would have no holes in our lineup.
He's definitely quietly having a solid solid season. If he keeps it up the trade deadline is gonna be very interesting. Meyers Chas Loperfido Dubon Some decisions are gonna have to be made.
There's no reason all 4 of those guys can't stay. Starting LF, starting CF, both righthanded 1B/OF backup/platoon who hits lefthanded Utility infielder with occasional start in OF (the organization has created a Dubon outfield AB's problem that shouldn't exist)
I agree. I kind of meant it more towards an upgrade possibility if there’s a player(s) to be had at the trade deadline. If Chas, Meyers, or even Dubon can be used in a package to get a star at the deadline then you gotta think about it. Especially with the emergence of Leon in triple A.
I think more likely Leon would be the one shipped out if he's still doing what he's doing. Between how Leon, Whitcomb and Bastidas are doing, you have some unexpected trade chips there.
Chances are someone will be injured... and all these players are still under team control next year... I rather not have a Nico Goodrum or Robel Garcia equivalent occupying any space on this roster.
