Michael Scotto, Jonathan Givony......I am too lazy to find those links. Or Search for HoopsHype. Basically the Combine has players rise in stocks, normal.
Donovan Clingan is firmly in play to be drafted in the top three — Hawks, Wizards or Rockets — per @wojespn (https://t.co/yVi24sFflQ). Clingan impressed teams at the NBA Draft Combine during meetings and testing. pic.twitter.com/1u4Rv1XyD3 — Evan Sidery (@esidery) May 17, 2024
I don’t really buy it (that he is more than a defensive player) as much as I did a week ago. Sure he improved on that end in year 2. But he’s much more of a scheme player, I have significant reservations about his upside. Also, for people craving for his potential shooting ability, I’d caution that because he has a lowly FT% < 60%. In comparison, Brook Lopez, IN COLLEGE, shoots above 80% at the free throw line.
They are going to go for a Center regardless......I mean yeah, they could take Sheppard or Castle too.. and trade for a Center after Adams' contract is up or something.
It makes a huge difference when your team shoots 47.1% from behind the arc. Believe me, our team needs 3PT shooters more. VanVleet was the only starter on our team who shot over 37% from behind the arc this year. That's just not good enough in this league. Our defense isn't near as bad as our offense. We ranked 6th in rebounds, 8th in steals, and we were first against opponent 3 PT% and 6th against opponent effective FG%. Now, let's talk about our shooting rankings. We were 23rd in 3 PT% and 27th in effective FG%.
I am also sure you are familiar with the strategy of inflating and deflating stock before drafts to throw teams off. Happens every year.
Not much inflating if you have a pool of 7 players that can be taken in the range of 3-5. I am not saying those are all the same talents, but obviously depends on the team's needs. Sheppard also fills a need but does 1 shooter change the overall look of the team? I mean you still need a Klay to the Curry.
Not going to lie, this is my favorite time of year to do research. I hope they make the right move and I look forward to more debates on here about what ppl think.
To be honest, it is a total crapshoot in terms of immediate help. Sheppard could be having the worst shooting season in his first year, and someone like Edey could be a force in his first year. Stranger things have happened.
Despite their front court issues, the Thunder would be going home for a game 7 if they had a consistent 3 point threat. They relied too much on SGA. It doesn’t matter if you have size to block shots and get rebounds, if you can’t put the ball in the basket you’re not going to win.
The team had decent shooters off the bench. Bullock, Holiday, Tari, Cam all shot 36% or better from 3. We need starters, the players taking the most shots, to shoot better from that range. If we want to draft a shooter that makes a difference on this team, they need to be supplanting a starter. If we draft Sheppard and all he does is take Holiday's minutes, it's not going to improve us much.
No, probably not, but it's a start. We should be raising a big SOS flag for 3 PT shooters. VanVleet is the only starter shooting over 37%.
Just use google for 2024 mock drafts, the first page results i clicked on 7 links, 4 of them have Clingan going 3rd to Houston one had him going 2nd, the others look like they have not been updated post combine. He has moved up significantly post combine. The NBA.com mock draft was last updated on the 12th, that has him going no 7. Not really a heavy lift to figure this out.
