I love how the narrative is going back to that the Wolves are the best team in the west and Denver is done. Its been going from: THE TWOLVES ARE GOING TO THE FINALS! JOKIC IS GOD! THE TWOLVES ARE DONE! THE TWOLVES ARE GOING TO THE FINALS!
When asked what was the difference in game 6, Anthony Edwards says, "We got Mike Conley back." So in a game filled with bigs and titans its the 6'0 175 Conley that's the difference maker. Here's coach Finch at the press conference: "Mike means everything for us. Unbelievable next to Anthony in terms of being able to set him up, play off of him, be in his ear all of the time. Smart defender. Just everything you want in an experienced, veteran point guard and just the very fact that Ant doesn't have to handle it every single time, that alone helps us. ... We desperately missed him the other night." If there's any doubt as to how important a smart PG can be in a high-stakes game, this settles it. Maybe in this draft, the Rockets shouldn't shy away from a PG if there's a good one to nab.
The people I was watching the game with were convinced the season was over half way through the first.
true, true ... meanwhile the truth is it has been an entertaining & competitive series. that should be enough, shouldn't it?!
Even when they did have a chance to come back I see Jamal Murray ignore a wide open Aaron Gordon at the corner to drive in for a contested layup and miss it. There seemed to be some kind of obvious fix to lose the game. Even the casual fan will notice this.
Players are paid too much nowadays to be in on it like this though. It's not Maradona's 1980s anymore when the Italian mob run the show.
With all these, technically, gambling venues anything is possible. Even 2 to 3 million under the table non-taxable incentives is very enticing.
Scott Foster likes to control the flow of the game. The game will go to whoever of Jokic or Ant can consistently finish through contact. He's not going to call ticky tack fouls in a game like this, even if it's legitimate. I think it only hampers players that rely on "crafty" moves to bait teams into fouling them. So, maybe it will slightly limit Mike Conley. Can't think of anyone else in this series that plays that way.
