I am good with Adams for now and see who is moving who at the Draft. I am likely the last one who is moved by College accolades. Keep those options open till the last minute.
One had to say that Edey quit 2 previous NBA Drafts due to little interest in order to return to Purdue and dominate Freshmen.... That was a glorified Drew Timme move .....who goes back to dominate younger players, aren't skilled players supposed to challenge older players?
I'm reading that Edey is really helping himself at the combine. His measurements are insane and I read he beat Clingan in virtually every drill. The most surprising one is that Edey apparently beat Alex Sarr in the agility shuttle drill. Does that mean he'll be better than Sarr? Nope. But it sure means he's quicker than I've given him credit for. I'm becoming intrigued (though not at 3).
I've been telling people. He's a better prospect to me than Smith. He looks and moves like a basketball player. Smith is stiff and robotic. He's also an average athlete even for his size.
No, he’s going later first round but many players have been underdrafted with similar issues (see Sengun and Jokic). Drew Timme isn’t 7’4” and didn’t average 30 points and 17 rebounds a game in the tournament after back to back player of the years. I understand people thinking I’m crazy because of where the analysts have Edey going and appreciate the responses which have had some great thought provoking feedback. Just remember that the analysts didn’t have Kobe, Steph, Khawhi, Jokic, etc. at the top of the draft either.
He didn’t just dominate freshmen, he dominated Clingan easily (37 points) in the Tournament Final. Respect for him coming back to carry his team to that final game against one of the best college teams in the past decade.
I also did not say, do not pick him but you should keep your options open until the Draft. The other stuff, yeah, I am happy for his collegiate achievements. It does not make sense to pay a Back Up Rookie 8-9 million (3rd pick)......just too much for NBA inexperience and small role. And I have learned a ton from the Jalen Green and Bari Pre-draft hype festival, it suffices a lifetime.
It’s just hard to envision Edey ever being an effective starting center in todays NBA, with the perimeter switching and lights out 3 point shooters to contend with.
I appreciate you putting that clip from the combine and won’t lie to you that I was shocked to see Edey hit 14/25 threes and be faster than both Clingan and Sarr. Agree that we should be open to all options, but would rather screw up on a legit 7’4” guy than a 6’1” Reed Sheppard whose dad (Jeff Sheppard) sucked in the NBA and who disappeared against Oakland (3 points) in the tournament. We could certainly trade back a few spots and get Edey and another pick which would be the optimal way to do it. Just a slight bit worried that the Spurs would take him at 4 because they usually don’t pay attention to the analysts and would have a dominant front court for years and years to come.
I think Sheppard is the BPA of the fans and maybe the FO thinks the same as fans but I think they have their own Big 6 Draft Board and Talks with other teams..... This year there are more ways than one to advance though........fortunately for us.
Edey is zooming up the chart.......killed it at the combine. Shoot 56% from 3 at 3-point shooting drill. Something nobody knew he had. That changes everything. I'd take him over Clingan. This allows Sengun-Edey pairing together to work. 7'3" with +7" wingspan. Would be 2nd longest player in NBA Better vertical leap than Gobert and DeAndre Jordan recorded.
Lakers version weighed more than 303 pounts.....he himself acknowleged.....at least 10 or 20 pounds more.
Since when has a Boban double or lookalike played like Boban..... And then since when has a Yao Ming double played like Yao MIng?
