Now, I'm bringing this up cause I heard it on the Drive Time Players today. Someone called in about a certain stadium's security.

What do you guys think of the security at your favorite ballpark? Some have just bag search, others have limited pat down, others, for some venues, may put on a full pat down + mag wand scan.

Pros? Cons? List them. I just want some general feedback, I'll post my opinions on this after a few posts have been made.

What I'm refering to is when you're coming in the gates/doors, if it wasn't clear before. A guy was complaining that the pat down that was done, was pretty quick, and his binocular case was not searched.

I think the security measures are more than enough in all stadiums. Actually I think what they do now is too much checking. What are they looking for: Joe Fan bringing in his own beer or Little Timmy bringing his own cotton candy? I think that is what they are more concerned with rather than Joe Redneck bringing in his pistol to a game, and shooting a rabid Cubs fan.( Although I wouldnt mind that. :D )

These stupid security checkpoints cause already too much wasted time. If I want to be searched I would take a trip to the airport. Some places( entertainment) shouldn't be searched.

Do they search you at Six Flags or the movie theatre? Then why should they search you at an Astros or Rockets game?

If I remember correctly, Six Flags has magnetometers (I think I'm just making up words now)

Those things that you walk through that detect the presense of metal.

    That's it I believe.

Here's a story for you. I took the family to Disneyworld this summer. Of course, they search your bags before you go in. I was carrying a back pack, and they searched every pocket.

However, before we went , I packed a bunch of Kool-Aid and Crystal Light mix into individual plastic baggies to mix in the quart size water bottles we were carrying. I told my wife "They'll never let me in with these things, they look like bags of powered anthrax."

So I get to the gate, they search the back pack, he sees the baggies...and says nothing! It was too easy.

I think the idea is that they want to prevent terror type attacks at public events. Any place where there's a bunch of people packed in is a potential target, it seems.

That said, I'm fine with a patdown and a quick scan with a metal detector. Seems like that would prevent guns, knives, and suicide-bomber type attacks. Can you imagine the public outrage if a person made it into, say, Reliant stadium with a load of dynamite strapped to their chest and blew up a section of fans? A quick pat-down and metal detector scan easily prevents this, so I'm fine with it.

Of course, biological attacks are much tougher to prevent. I'd never trust the people working security at a stadium to identify and contain a biological agent.
