That's fine. I'm not saying he's not gonna be good. Just saying we have to assess his size accurately. He's closer in functional size to FVV than Curry even if his listed height is closer to the latter. Look at the vertical leap video a few posts above, he's built like a funko pop. Again, this has no consequence on his skill level I'm just saying he's smaller than his listed height will have you believe. For the record, I don't mind taking him at 3.
The problem with Reed is that he's 6'2 which means that he definitely can't play shooting guard in NBA and if we are drafting him as a future point guard we are making a mistake because there are better playmakers than him. I feel like some of you think that he is the white Curry but he isn't.
And this isn't even just about Reed. It's about big men too. We should stop looking at raw height and use wingspan and standing reach more when evaluating prospects.
I think my biggest point in pointing out his size is that I think he's way too small to be a 2 guard in the NBA. You seem to be a big Reed supporter. Do you think he can plausibly play the 2 guard? And if he can only be a PG because of his size, then the biggest thing we should be evaluating would be his handle and ability to create off the dribble. That might ultimately be what determines his value as a prospect.
I’m actually not stuck on Sheppard, just pointing out facts. I think he’s a PG in the same way FVV and Steph are. Not necessarily game managers. His handle is solid. I think his creation is going to be the biggest factor in his ceiling
The unathletic narrative is out the window. Now he’s going to get compared Mac Mcclung instead of Mark Price.
I still believe Amen is our most likely point guard of the future. (I also think Cam is a small forward, not a guard, for the record.) For me if we drafted Reed he would be our 6th man/backup combo guard to start with. Now, looking forward to the future, what we're really asking is not what position he would play, but how he fits on the court with Amen Thompson and/or Jalen Green. And I think I can see a fit there, especially with Amen. You can have Amen guard opposing SGs and Reed guard opposing PGs, then they reverse roles on offense so that Amen is the primary ballhandler and Sheppard plays off the ball. Works fine. As far as Sheppard/Green backcourts, that's a little more challenging. I do think Jalen has shown some development as a ballhandler and passer, and Sheppard appears to be at least better than the average shooting guard as a playmaker. The biggest issue is that it is a backcourt severely lacking in size on defense unless Sheppard really plays bigger than his height like FVV does. So you might have to minimize the amount of time they play together for that reason.
Dude is a sniper, no doubt about it. But he will be a specialist and a bench player. All good, I like the guy, but at 3?
There are a ton of rotational piece questions, but I do like how Sheppard complements Amen and allows you to play different styles. I agree that the Sheppard/Green backcourt has some likelihood of being picked on, but if you play Eason/Jabari/Amen at the forward spots alongside them (and Sengun/Adams), you do make up for some of the size.
Clingan or Dilingham. Dilingham would help most next year as we need a microwave off the bench. We currently have enough defense, but Clingan is probably the better asset. Clingan might be very necessary if Adams does not turn out. Very tired of what seems like 10 years of being outbigged by some teams. I vote Clingan by a whisker.
