I love Jimmy. I wish he had joined us years ago to have made a big 3 with Paul and Harden. However, I would not want to give him long term money at his age and with his record of missed games.
He is an immediate upgrade on Brooks and a great mentor for Eason but I would not offer the sort of deal that it would take to tempt him from Miami.

    35-year old Jimmy Butler?

    Absolutely not. Hard pass.

It’s highly dependent on the price, as with the KD talk, what are we willing going to give up for a CP3 in OKC type addition

This is not a player who will put us in range for a championship, this is not a player that will be with our core long term. This is a player who can help our core develop by giving them a late seed playoff run or two.

OKC got paid multiple first for CP3 which was insane. Is Butler or KD worth some value? Of course, but there’s a limit - nothing that jeopardizes the future.

    Dillon Brooks
    2024 BK pick

They’re not getting a better offer. I don’t see teams mortgaging their entire future for an aging star after the debacle that was Bradley Beal and Lillard.

Jimmy hates Houston but we will be leverage. We could give him a large 1 year deal with possible extension then next season we would have to choose Jimmy or Fred.

I'd offer that for Paul George but not Butler

We're just leverage for Butler to get an extension out of Miami. He had no interest in us at all last time he hit free agency when we were ready to contend. Doubt he's suddenly interested when we're midway through the rebuilding process.

No chance in hell the org wants him OR Jimmy would be willing to be a good citizen on this roster….just like always - this is a player using Houston to try to put pressure on the current team’s offer. See the last James Harden contract negotiations for this playbook. Lowe is just spreading narrative for someone’s agent - either knowingly or unknowingly -and if he can’t see that then he is dumb.

…I don’t know why they even play this game - it’s not like Miami doesn’t see through this too.

There seems to be a disconnect between national media and local media on the Rockets intentions this summer

Pretty much all national media members think we are star hunting this offseason while pretty much all local media thinks we are making marginal/small moves this summer and relying on internal growth.

For the Rockets sake, I certainly hope it is the latter

Why do these sportswriters always help their players with contract leverage?

Jimmy Butler doesn't want the Rockets. The Rockets don't want a 35 year-old Jimmy. End of discussion.

Not really. The national media talks more possibilities and local media just get their boring takes from Rockets front office, and the front office would never actually divulge their cards. From a capsheet standpoint, the Rockets can't do anything major until 2025 in terms of FA moves. But a lot of moves in the NBA happens a year early in trades, so there's always the possibility of a trade happening this offseason if a star somewhere wants out.

Now, why Butler would bother mentioning Houston I have no idea. You'd think he'd mention more Philly or Indy or NY or any place where he could actually still compete.

The Rockets next with Butler on the team have a better record than the Heat with Butler on the team even when comparing west vs east.
