While it is true that elevation hurts the pitcher some by taking some break off the ball, he still had to get the barrel to it. The guy is bludgeoning the ball.

One of the most underappreciated American movies. A timeless piece of art that is also really fun and endlessly rewatchable. Writing is incredible.

agreed. I always thought it was Jack Lemmon's last film for some reason.

Mamet has a bunch of great plays and several have been turned into movies.

Ever watched The Spanish Prisoner? Heist?

Loperfido is hitting .150 in Sugar Land and .390 elsewhere in the PCL

Yes, it's way early I know, but still.

You can buy a milb.tv and watch most games, but it's not exactly high quality. Can't imagine there are a lot of shady internet sites to stream minor league games free. Whoever has been uploading these YouTube videos has my appreciation.

Some encouraging signs from fringe prospects.

Alejandro Torres has been lights out in the Asheville pen this year 10 IP 5 H 2 ER 1 BB 14 Ks. The Astros signed him as an UDFA last year. He turns 23 today, and joined Bloss as the only 2023 draft pitchers to start the year in high A.

Colby Langford appears to have been moved from the Fayetteville pen to their rotation.

Aaron Brown's strikeout rate is up so far this season, without sacrificing his usual control.

Jeron Williams has hit the ground running, but hasn't played SS yet.

Will Wagner has walked more than twice as much as he struck out.

Aaron Brown has been really really good since June of last year. He should be ready for AAA soon. I’m ready to see what he and Julio Robaina can do in Sugar Land. I feel like Misael Tamarez can be relegated to the bullpen to make room.

One of the Astros front office guys did an interview right after the draft last year and called out Jeron Williams as his favorite pick.

Trey Dombroski had a rough first month with Asheville, but he finished it off strong as he allowed an unearned run, a hit, and struck out six in four innings as the Tourists topped Hickory 5-4.

Fayetteville also got a great night from their arms as they beat Down East 3-1.

Sandy Mejia allowed two hits and fanned six in 3.1 scoreless, Abel Mercedes got the last two outs of the 4th (one via strikeout), and Derek True finished it off by allowing an unearned run on three hits and striking out eight in the final five innings. None of them issued a walk.

James Hicks allowed a homer to lead off Fayetteville's game with Down East... and then he and Raimy Rodriguez proceeded to shut the Wood Ducks down the rest of the way in a 3-1 victory. That home run was the first run that Hicks has allowed this season.

    James Hicks: 5 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 8 K
    Raimy Rodriguez: 4 IP, H, 2 BB, 4 K

Oliver Carrillo went 3-4 with a solo homer (3) and an RBI single. Zach Daniels drove in a run with a groundout.

Jacob Melton went 3-5 with a two-run homer (2) and an RBI double in Corpus Christi's 6-3 win over Midland.

Pedro León's 3rd homer of the season:

León also had an RBI single and stole 3 bases in Sugar Land's 8-3 win in Reno. Misael Tamarez allowe four hits, walked one, and struck out eight over five shutout innings.

Leon is going on 1100+ pa in AAA and he’s produced in a pretty steady band of upper 20s k rate and lower double digits walk rate with an ISO around .190. That’s not the profile of a future star like I hoped he’d be, and I held out hope for a further breakout even going into this season, but it’s probably time to view him for what he very likely is: a decent MLB bench player who offers defensive value versatility, and speed, but who doesn’t hit for enough power to be an everyday player because of his strikeout tendencies. I kind of think he could approximate Jose Siri’s big league career, with a few less HR.

Is Pedro Leon a better option than Jake Myers. Yes.

Jake Myers damaged his shoulder running into the wall ruined his swing and confidence.

Dana Brown really need to make trades and call up players.

Pedro Leon, Jacob Melton call up.

I disagree with literally everything you said.

Meyers is having a good year and is performing like one of the top 10 CF in baseball. He needs to be playing more, not less. His k rate is <20% in the majors, replacing him with somebody striking out significantly more than that in the minors doesn’t make any sense.

Melton has struggled immensely in the early going this season. He has turned it around the last couple weeks but as a whole he has been pretty bad…in AA. He is nowhere near ready for the majors.
