Let's say we get lucky and land two top 4 picks. At 24 years old and in his 5th season, Coby is a great shooter, he is 6'5 and has 2 years remaining at roughly $11.5m/season which is amazing value. After many disappointing seasons, he just had a very good season and wasn't a defensive liability. Finalist for the MIP award. He led the Bulls to 39 wins in the East with Derozan, Vucevic, Caruso and Dosunmu (Lavine only played 25 games). Keep in mind some people are saying this is a weak draft, so you can either draft players or trade them for future picks or trade them for other players. You can also add more picks to those two picks and go for a better player. Moreover, there's a possibility none of our SG's pan out and FVV is old and short despite his reliability. FVV, Amen, Jalen and Whitmore just might not be cutting it for you as a guard rotation. Would you do it? If not, what do you suggest we do?
Not two top four picks, no. If it's like two #9 picks, maybe. One lottery pick + salary match? Absolutely. He's a great fit on our roster. I don't know if there's a whole lot of upside left in there, but he would be a fantastic 6th man/potential starter (if Jalen flames out).
2 yrs isn't a long time, after that you'll have to pay him. The value of lotto picks is you can get a good player on the cheap for 4-5 yrs. That's something we need cuz our young guys up for extensions.
Why would I be joking? Is this crazy? It's a bad draft according to draft enthusiasts and I think the Rockets end up picking twice instead of trading because no one would offer anything of any real value to them for those picks. I understand that there is nuance and that there probably is a good player or even a few in there somewhere. I'm telling you it doesn't matter because no one is trading anything real for a couple of projects like Topic and Risacher. The most you'll get is yeah....Coby White or an aging Mikal Bridges. I wouldn't do Mikal at this point, he's too old. You're not sniffing Markannen. The reality is that the Rockets would just pick twice and cross their fingers that the players pan out. That's it. That's what would happen. I can't overstate this enough. No one is trading anything worth a **** for the players available in this draft and just because there's a hypothetical future where one or two of them becomes an All Star doesn't change that.
i like Coby. But even I would not trade #9 (plus) for him. Tate and multiple 2nds? I would be all over it. (or even a FRP in the 20's)
White is overrated. His stats are inflated because he plays against garbage teams like Hornets, Wizards and Pistons 4x a season. If he was good they wouldn't have lost to the Heat. I wouldn't trade even 1 lotto pick for White. Maybe a low frp and Tate.
What is the best result you honestly think you can get for TWO top 4 picks? If Coby White is your honest and best answer, then go back to NBA transactions school. Wow. (Would I trade pick 9 and salary filler for a 1 year rental of White? Probably not)
