You are correct, it's the QO that's $7,621,639.

Still a ~$16m difference in actual usable cap space.

They aren't going to "refuse to give Sengun the max". I think it's fairly certain that he will get the max.

But that doesn't mean you have to do it now, you have to give yourself the option of being a cap space team after next season and the difference between his cap hold of $16m and a max contract starting at $40m is enough to justify waiting while assuring him it's a done deal.

Thank you. That's exactly what I'm trying to tell these fools that "being better" or anchoring a .500% team is not some super high bar. A young team who tries hard can get some extra wins in a long season - maybe even be a 40 win team, but it was very apparent at the end of the season when other teams were starting to ramp up their game, that we dont have that level to even be competitive with most playoff teams when those guys are locked in. We are young still and that's not entirely surprising but to your point, "being better" does mean you have earned any early max contract. That's just Rockets fans reaching too soon. I hate losing as much as the next guy, but Im willing to lose a few more years rather than build around solid but not elite guys just to be a perennial first round losing team for the next decade.

That's right - its in the best interest of the team financial to wait and takes nothing from Sengun - likely helps him have better plays surrounding him. I agree that Sengun likely will get a max deal in the end - but there is no reason to rush any of that for a number of reasons like you mentioned or even - I don't know, the last time we saw him, he was being wheeled off the court.

Its like if I'm test driving a car and I really like the car a lot but then it breaks down and before the car is back I'm being pressured to make a decision on buying the car even though I still have more time to test drive it AND if I wait a bit longer I'll have access to some holiday sale which doesn't lower the price of the car but least I get a few extra perks thrown in that are of some value. Is anyone really signing the dotted line in that scenario besides Sengun fans?

Who said anything about refusing? Just you it seems.

You don't have a reason to do it though, right? A slam dunk reason? All-star? Champ? In season tourney? Playoffs? Any kind of all-team? All the stans dog cursed Jalen Green for 3 years straight and the only reason you all have for heartbubbles is that he's better than Jalen Green. Whoopty **** though, right? Who isn't, right? Man who could've guessed ******** on your coworkers is bad tact? Besides everyone who's ever had to work with coworkers... guy LIKE SENGUN who got the max, ready set go. It's like KAT, Jokic, Embiid and maybe Adebayo if you like. Better, to a man.

There's no reason to force the decision and every reason to say come back a better player and we'll give you the bag.

Most people here need to learn what being a restricted free agent means. Already forgot what happened to DeAndre Ayton?

Rox don't need to promise or assure Sengun and Green anything. They have total control and can match any offer they receive in the open market. Short off pulling a Harden Sengun and Green don't have any choice but to remain a Rocket if the team wants them back.

They can even lie to Sengun, tell him they don't want him anymore and then sike him out and match his 5 yr max deal from another team. So there's no point arguing or worrying about his and Greens extension if they are worth it they will be resigned.

The only time an extension happens is if they are willing to sign at a discount for example I offer Sengun a 150M contract for 5 yrs if Sengun accepts I'm taking that deal now no questions asked. Otherwise you wait for restricted free agency next year.

The point of extensions this summer is to get team-friendly number$, which will afford us flexibility in the future. A calculated risk that the players will continue to develop and their contracts will be bargains towards the end.

For J. Green that would be Dillon Brooks type number ($18-20M per)
For Sengun that would be a JJJ type number ($25-27M per)

This should be the goal. People here argue Pro/Con extensions but don't talk about what number extension. The numbers matter. If we can lock them at these numbers, the team should do it, absolutely.

All the pressure is on Green and Sengun. Let's see what they are made of.

Both will have a much better negotiating posture if they show steady improvement (conditioning, shooting, mindset, etc.) when training camp opens. If they return as the same guys they are right now, the front office has little reason to offer an extension.

Another variable is that we may end up with another wing as the BPA when we draft. Unless we beat the odds and end up at the top of the lottery that player may need to spend 20 games in G-league before they are ready for Udoka's rotation (like Whitmore).

If Green gets moody after that pick rather than more focused on getting better, Stone can find Green a new home.

I agree with this big time. Extension, sure. Max extension, why? There's no benefit to offering either one a max extension besides "makes them happy," but we've got a team to build and no one has won a playoff game that warrants giving up cap space to make them happy. I don't care how good their stats are, and I love them both.

Sure, buddy. Him and Doncic are just exactly the same. Absolute madness. That chart almost has me wondering if you're trolling now.

The stats you posted, under the guise that they are the same:

    Doncic
    28p 9rb 8ast

    Sengun
    21p 9rb 5 ast

How dare you call another opinion crap while pretending your post contains genuine information.

I didn’t compare him to Luka. Sengun is the second youngest player after Luka to average over 21/9/5. That’s just a fact. Any claim that he hasn’t earned a max is baseless from a historical perspective.
