5-3 when I am at home. 2-11 when I’m gone on a trip. I don’t have anywhere else to be fro 5 weeks. We are going to buckle down and get this fixed. be concerned about the last couple days in May and first week of June.
We'll never know if he would have made it. Smart people know who should have been in CF and it isn't Dubon.
Here my thing about the Big 3. It’s early in the season. Just because we’re leading after 6, Espada doesn’t have to used all 3 in all those games. He can’t be managing every games like it’s the playoff. We shouldn’t have all 3 not available to pitch in a game at anytime during the season unless we have extra innings game. IMO, he didn’t have to use all Big 3 yesterday. Could have given Montero 7th, Abreu 8th, and Hader 9th. Pressly would be available to pitch the 8th or 9th tonite without going back to back day. At some point, he has to trust all his relievers at high leverage situation. I can’t believe what I’m saying but I do missed how Dusty managed his pitching staffs. Questionable at time but he does keep his high leverage guys fresh throughout the season. I would give Espada an F with the way he managing the bullpen right now.
What nobody has mentioned ( except me earlier) is that Meyers plays deeper. On average he sets up 20 ft deeper than Dubon ( and 22 ft deeper than McCormuck). Not only does he run better routes and cover more ground, it would not have been 101 ft in 5.1 secs. It would most likely be less than 85 ft.
Disagree This team needed the win. This team needs to establish that big 3, 7-9th inning identity. The lead was only 3 and this team has not protected leads - must use your best. Tomorrow could be a blow out - don't save bullets that you may never need if today is important. I do agree that at least 1 of them should be available for every game, but you don't use 2nd best option in a close, winnable game. If he had used Mintero instead of any of them, and given up runs we would be screaming at how unacceptable that decision was. Also. Thursday was an off day, so nobody will be pitching back to back today. Pressly was taxed w/ 28 pitches Wednesday but not Friday and Hader threw 30 yesterday. Abreu threw less than 20 in both so there is an issue if he's not available today. Pressly likely is too. Hader is unlikely but should be available tomorrow. It is true that if any of them are used today they are almost definitely out Sunday though.
another day another jabreu in the lineup. he almost screwed up yesterday with terrible glove play. imma predict he'll be up with a minimum of 2 times with men in scoring position and come up empty this afternoon.
We were all so excited to get rid of Maldonado so we would finally have 9 MLB hitters in the lineup every day. Baseball gods had a lot of fun with that one. How much longer are we gonna have to deal with this before they finally admit the contract was an L and cut our losses. Look at this s**t, just look at it https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jose-abreu-547989?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
Meyers would be nice for the defense. I thought Dana said he was getting a shot. I were another team, I'd make an offer for him
My guess is they think they can get away with playing Abreu against these crummy teams to get him going, or at least give him enough time to confirm that he’s never going to hit. My prediction would be that his last game as an Astro will be against the Oakland A’s on May 26th.
I am lost regarding so many things Espada us doing. For Abreu the only thing I can think of is they are desperate for him to show something and that can't happen on the bench. Hopefully they have targeted a certain PA level. He's at 61. Sooner he hits that level the sooner they feel comfortable making a move? For Meyers, it makes no sense. He is a better CF and Dubon is better off the bench as a multiple position option and contact hitter. He started 7 of 1st 10 games w/ .868 OPS and now only 4 of 12 since.
If he can’t hit the ball in Mexico City, he should catch his own plane ride home. May 26th is a long ways for someone that can’t hit or play defense.
