Yuli spoiled us... Altuve, Bregman, and Pena were NEVER that accurate.

If u look at the back of baseball card, it would be Altuve. But I think u have throw away the baseball card this year so it’s Jabreu. Every professional 1B should be able to scoop up the ball on 1 bounce. If u look at Abreu face, u could tell he knew he effed it up.

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...on-astros-justin-verlander-debut-19411557.php

“He talked to us after the series against Atlanta,” outfielder Chas McCormick said. The gist of Verlander’s message, McCormick said: “We’ve just got to turn it up a little bit. We’ve just got to play better.”

“Pretty much get our heads out of our asses,” utilityman Mauricio Dubón said, noting Verlander’s words were different: “But that’s what we got.”

“Knowing how he is out there and knowing how bad he wants it, it’s huge for us to play behind him and be locked in every single pitch, and it just gives us a little more juice when he’s out there,” McCormick said. “Obviously, we should have juice every single game. But there’s something about him that really gets us rolling.”

Definitely should have been an error on Abreu. I am surprised scorekeeper ruled it a hit.

We were fortunate that Hader buckled down and did his job and we got this win. At this point we need every win we can get. It's still early in the year and we are only 4 back in the division. We need to buckle down. Fortunately nobody else in our division is hot right now and it is easy to see if we get our sh8t together, this time next month we will be back in first place,

We have only played 21 games and there are still 141 games left in the regular season. It's a marathon and not a sprint fortunately.

Really sad that are no other Vocal Leaders in the Clubhouse.

Carlos Correa, George Springer, Michael Brantley, Yuli Gurriel, Martin Maldonado.

Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Yainer Diaz, Victor Caratini must be Vocal

Alex Bregman messed up and got trolled. "I guess we'll never know" comment he made messed him up, he has been real quiet even with the bat.

Paraphrasing here, but like Berkman once said, "when you look for cupcakes on your schedule and you don't see any, that means you're the cupcake."

Time to fatten up and (ironically) get healthy, boys.

I can’t really see any of our current group other than Jv or McCullers being the team meeting leader type.
if abreu didn’t suck balls maybe since he’s a respected veteran.
Obviously if altuve ever speaks up everyone would buy in.
Pretty sure everyone would run into a wall for tuve

Not only all of this, but on the play last night Dubon (since he isn't a natural OF) took a bad angle to the spot. Not only does Jake get to the ball faster he would have taken the right path as well. Jake makes that catch last night.

I will say the ball last night came up a little harder than I expected at 30% with 101 feet at 5.1 seconds (I was expecting 50%). Jake really only has one comparable play at 110 feet, and 5.2 seconds (5% catch probability). Jake caught it (but definitely not in the he almost always makes that play range that I expected).

I love Yuli, his ability to pick trash balls out of the earth was incredible, but man we gotta move on. It’s going to be 2094 people still swooning over their long lost love, Yulieski Gurriel

Starter matchup favors Astros on paper today with Blanco, but Williams is no scrub and Houston 'only' hits RHP at .744 OPS this year. Abreu's .201 is dragging that percentage down prob 50 points by himself, but he'll still play anyway. Maybe he surprises everyone by actually catching the ball today.

The Big 3 have all pitched twice in the past 3 days, so none should pitch today and hopefully tomorrow too. There's enough arms remaining in the bullpen if Blanco gives another strong start. Montero is available, but he should only pitch once these next two days. Seven innings by Ronel would be awesome and he seems capable.

A win today makes our longest winning streak possible tomorrow. Astros need a good long stretch of baseball.

Even though you don’t expect this group of veteran/professionals to need somebody to pump them up and get motivated… it also echos what many reiterated that Springer/Correa/JV/(maldy, gasp) were always far more vocal in terms of being the players that would speak up internally (and externally) when things were sputtering… while Altuve/Bregman/Tucker/Yordan were more the lead by example types.

They slept-walk through the first half of last season with only Maldy there to maybe try and get things revved up…. But he was too busy looking over his shoulder and playing shenanigans with the managers/front office to ensure that he’d still get preferential playing time.

JV can’t be the only guy to speak up for this team… but at the very least, he has some guys’ attention.
