A lot of people don’t understand how important resources like water are in the region. It was one of the reasons why Arafat didn’t agree to the Camp David proposal from Ehud Barak as it wouldn’t give Palestinians water rights or a contiguous territory to build a Palestinian state.

 

Yes. And it's two-fold. Water is necessary for drinking, irrigation, agricultural, economy, sanitation and is in limited supply.

But in addition to all of that, allowing Palestinians to have water isn't a security risk. The restriction of water is simply ethnic bias on the part of Israel.

I agree that Arafat was corrupt and the biggest failing of the Palestinian Authority has been corruption. He also lacked the moral courage of Rabin. He did still make peace with Israel and committed Fatah to a path of negotiation rather than conflict with Israel.

Israel has largely reciprocated with collective punishment, more settlements and undermining the Palestinian Authority for Hamas.

The Palestinians are far from prefect nor just victims with Hamas being a death cult and the PA corrupt. That doesn’t mean Israel has done everything for peace and bears no responsibility. This isn’t a binary situation and that sustainable peace is impossible is because too many view it as a binary
