I have a serious question for you or anyone in this thread. What is it about players that throw 99, 100, 101, 102 ... that leads them to poor control sometimes? Is it just as simple as the harder you throw, easier it is to **** up mechanics and control?
26 year old Undrafted FA corner OF who posted a 68 wRC+ in AAA last season asked to be released? Riiiiight.
I'm sure there is nothing quite like being the 26th best OF prospect in an organization and getting passed left and right like my grandma on the interstate, 26 years old, K'd 30% of his PAs last year and stuck at AAA.
I could see it. He has been passed by other players, his future opportunities with the Astros looks bleak, so much so that he has not been given a single at bat so far in 2024. Request release and try to catch on with another team where he might get another shot. I am not sure another team will be interested though.
I think Blubaugh is going to be a solid MOR for the Astros with the possiblity of being slightly better. I am thinking the kind of results we got from Collin McHugh or Charlie Morton in the past
Well, it wasn't all crap on the farm last night but it'll be another long year if this thread ends up being the only sane space in this section again. Sugar Land had a combined one-hitter; Misael Tamarez allowed the lone hit, walked four, and struck out five in his five innings. The bullpen followed by allowing one baserunner over the last four innings. Ray Gaither walked one and struck out one in the 6th, Joel Kuhnel struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 7th, Dylan Coleman hit a batter but struck out the side in the 8th, and Wander Suero finished it with two strikeouts and a groundout in the 9th.
6-run 7th propelled Fayetteville to a 10-3 win in Myrtle Beach Xavier Casserilla with two doubles. Nehomar Ochoa had a couple of base hits, walked twice, and stole two bases.
Alex Santos starts for Corpus tonight. Really excited to see how he does in AA. He just turned 22 so it would be a big deal if he’s able to have success at that level. I have a theory that Houston’s tandem starting strategy ends up making their pitchers numbers look worse than they should. If a guy throws a good game, he still gets pulled after 4 or 5 innings, so the games where he struggles aren’t balanced out by longer outings where they have success.
He's in extended spring training then will go to Fayetteville (according to Callis). Hadn't pitched since last April so there's no reason to rush him.
