Been looking for a time to visit Big Bend or a national park with a telescope. Hope they’re able to get a better timeline of when and where it will be visible. This is just a nova, but I’ve heard about supernovas being a potential earth killer far off in the future. I forget how close it would have to be to impact earth, but it’s a lot further than you’d think. The cosmic radiation and winds could strip our atmosphere entirely.

If you're in Houston, the George Observatory at Brazos Bend State Park is pretty damn awesome from what I remember. Serious stargazer people bring their fancy stuff and are happy to let you look around with them.

But yes, Big Bend is amazing

    Also an excellent idea.

I'm assuming they've recovered and rebuilt after the wildfires a few years ago?
