Whats our expectations for next yr considering we have draft capital and $$ to spend? Division Championship? AFC Playoffs? Super Bowl?
Considering our growth and the pieces we have in place, as well as having a full draft hand and free agency money to utilize, our goals for the upcoming season are as follows: A-Goal: a deep playoff run. B-Goal: make the playoffs. I would also like to see growth and development from our younger players to set us up for sustained success. Our offensive line needs to show improvement creating running lanes and holding blocks in pass protection. And our defensive front has to demonstrate better penetration and an ability to disrupt our opponents backfields.
Texans schedule is pretty rough next year. The Texans were a decent defense this year. I would like for them to aim for Top 5. Hopefully with a good draft and DeMeco bringing in more of his type of players for his scheme that can become achievable. The potential of this team will depend on that side of the ball. Win the AFC South and make the AFC championship game is a realistic goal.
I think if we can score big in FA; Saquon Barkley and Hollywood Brown. Then focus on the Defense in round 1 and 2; a DL and a DE. If they can accomplish that, along with keeping our own FA, I think we can make a deep.playoff run
‘Is Barkley a Zone running back? I do not want to spend money on a back because he’s a known name… Need someone who knows how to run with a Zone blocking scheme….
Schedule is going to be really tough next year on paper, but we have a top 5 QB on a rookie deal. Now is the time to push in a lot of our chips and try to capitalize. It's a huge jump considering where we were a year ago but AFC championship game should be the minimum goal.
IMO if you have a top 10 QB the goal should be Superbowl. We've all seen how quickly things can turn on a dime.
I just looked at the schedule for next yr... WOW! Its going to be hard but not impossible. The question I have and most of us are not looking at is, who can we get to be our backup QB?? In case CJ is out a week or two. Next yr schedule is brutal, so we have to think of all angels.
This season had a very familiar feel to the 2015 Astros who were also coming off a terrible run of seasons and had a surprise trip to the playoffs, won the wild card round, and then played the eventual WS champ tough for a while before losing. Let's see if Baltimore goes on to win the SB. Both futures look(ed) very bright for sustained success. But the Texans can go ahead and skip the 2016 Astros season and go straight to the championship season.
Depending on how much they value their own free agents, they won’t have as much money as you think: Greenard, Schultz, Cashman, Singletary, Rankins, Barnett, Nelson, Fairbarin and Johnston are all free agents. This is why Caserio dicking around for 2 years and not building a foundation is going to hurt them. Other than rookies, they don’t have a lot of long-term assets.
The NFL’s unbalanced schedule needs to be taken into a consideration. Playing a 1st place schedule instead of a last place schedule is no joke, ups the difficulty as does losing the (4) NFC South games from the schedule. On the flip side, yes they have money to spend and have given free agents a reason to come. Other potential unknowns include possible losing Slowik and seeing what Stroud looks like under a different coordinator or in a new offense. And none of that includes the NFL draft. With all those variables, it would be unwise to jump to any conclusions, set any expectations even if this year’s results certainly allow room for optimism
There’s definitely a lot of historic basis for this statement. But I guess you have to ask yourself how much you think the following will fall off next year: Kansas City, Baltimore, Buffalo, Dallas, Detroit, Green Bay, NY Jets, Minnesota. And that’s just the non-division schedule
How much you think is fair for Greenard? Sure he is good but he has been hurt every yr. Im think $15M per.
I weight it all based on how many elite QBs we are facing. Lots of things change year to year but top tier QBs can win any game they play in.
