I do too. But he has so much more work today than anticipated. Really learned nothing about team ball his first two years. He’s essentially a rookie in that regard.

Yup they really need to cut bait while they still can. A few teams around the league I’m sure think he has value as a bench scorer with some upside.

The difference between given something and having to work for it.

Earlier @Deuce and I were talking about Jalen. I don’t think you move him at all costs, but if you can get someone like Jaden Ivey, you do it.

There is still a chance that Green turns it on in the second half, but he really doesn’t look very motivated to me. Maybe a change of scenery will do him well too.

As for fans wanting Whitmore to get all those Green minutes, I’ll tell you that the Rockets have talked to teams about 2’s and some 3’s that shoot well and are vets. Malcolm Brogdan is one such player and they would likely get Green’s minutes… or if the deal is for Ivey, he would get minutes.

The Green situation is disappointing, maybe he misses discussing anime with his former wingman, KPJ.

Quote from his high school coach.

“It didn’t matter who we were playing,” Roznovsky said. “He drew crowds. We always do a postgame talk after the game to talk about the game and get ourselves ready for the next day. Jalen would usually miss those because he’s being absorbed by the fans and signing autographs. We were OK with that. Fans were all over him.

Sounds like priorities were outta whack even back in high school. Thoughts?

Great post. Cam is a willing defender and will be a great defender in the future it's so obvious. He's physically too strong and tries too hard and commits fouls but he will adjust to the nba ball. Green is eyebleeding on defense. Not only he doesn't really contest shots he escorts to his man driving to the basket. He is like a student who shows up to class because the teacher takes attendance. That's how he views playing defense. He just has to be there because Ime wants him to be there. He doesn't wanna do anything other than just being there and grabbing defensive rebounds that even a 3 year old toddler can.

I agree but his wingspan isn't a problem (Apparently 6'8) and almost never is when it comes to shooting guards. Bane has 2'5'' wingspan but he's one of the best sgs in the league. His small hands are a problem. Maybe not just his shooting mechanics but his hand size is the reason why he shoots so bad. Maybe his small hands are behind his broken form. He pushes the ball almost because he can't grab and shoot it with his wrists.

Look on the bright side. Sengun might be the the best (if not for Scottie Barnes ) player to come out of that draft.

The Rockets took the biggest swing on upside in the draft by taking Green. He was the rawest prospect with no real floor and they missed. That’s what happens when you take big swings sometimes.

Not on Jalen and not on the Rockets, we still have Sengun and 4 other lotto caliber talents

Why not just make him a bench scorer for us? He is a much better match with Amen, Cam, and Tari than with the slow offense we run with FVV.

Will Detroit actually move Ivey right after being like "oh, maybe you should have the ball in your hands after all"? Is he a good fit alongside Sengun? I agree that a young guard with potential is the way to go, I'm just curious why Ivey specifically would be the target. I would think we would want more of an efficient shooter--Tyler Herro, Devin Vassell, Coby White, Jalen Williams, just to drop a few names that come to mind.

I’ve been trumpeting Brogdon for months as the solution and we can give Green a chance of developing off the bench. Brogdon’s contract ends the same time FVV’s becomes non-guaranteed. At the very least, Amen,Cam, and Tari will develop incredible synergy and the Rockets will be prepared to play at a speed that our young players are comfortable with. Jalen can sink or swim off the bench.

I think he has earned another contract just like this. Run it back.

Jalen Green signed a 4 year / $40,808,448 contract with the Houston Rockets, including $40,808,448 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $10,202,112. In 2023-24, Green will earn a base salary of $9,891,480.

Cam is 50lbs heavier than Jalen. He can bully his way to spots and enjoys a better shot currently. Both are abysmal defensively.

Getting Jalen going should not involve 30 foot 3 pointers to start a game. All of the young legs and our pace sucks. Hardly ever any easy points on run outs or transition. No half court lobs. Nothing easy for Jalen. He has to squirm his way through a crowd and is getting swallowed up. Crazy to see the intent of reducing ground and pound with Sengun only to make Jalen a spot up shooter. Its counterintuitive to the type of player he is.

I agree with OP in that Jalen should be moving more. Slashing. Opening up lob opportunities. Getting a rhythm before he starts jacking up 3's.

Amen will get him and Cam running. Sign a vet sg and move him to the bench

I'd just move Brooks to the 2 and start Tari in this scenario.

increasing pace gives the other team more fastbreaks too. Do you think we would improve our +/- by doing that? I have me doubts that it would be a net positive for Jalen, given his mediocre decision making and tendency to preen after a dunk instead of getting back on D

Who knows? I think its safe to say that half court basketball is not Jalens strength at the present seeing as to how this is probably the first year he's ever played in an offense like that. What we do know is he can jump out of the gym, fly down the court and get above the rim. Why not play to those strengths? Right now the biggest issue is offense along with defending the 3 and that is not only a Jalen Green problem. He wasnt the worst net player the last game but you wouldnt be able to tell by the dialogue that surrounds him and with guys not willing to peel back the layer of context and apply even just a little nuance and lateral thinking to the issues that plague not only Jalen, but the entire team.
