They were two separate things, we need a shooter AND we need a backup C.

Capela would be that backup C

lol we need a big too. Bullock as a flyer on a sharpshooter wasn't bad and hopefully Cam with a regular 15-20 minute role shores up some of that shooting. Bullock's 2 month stall is over, hopefully we'll see if he can contribute. A credible big is probably the bigger need.

atlanta is probably trying to poach one of our youngsters. no thanks.

but if it's a salary dump then sure. it's only 20 million for next year, that's also a pretty big expiring to match in any trade.

Atlanta already has a decent share of wealth with Bufkin, Jalen Johnson and Okongwu they have to worry about....

Clint makes 20m this year, 22m next.

Bima summarized few points on the recent Locked On:

    1. Half the season is gone, so if Rockets get him, this season Rockets just pay the remainder of 2023-2024.

    2. Shouldn't make a dent too much cap flexibility as far extending any of the young core, since Clint only have one more year. Green and Sengun's payday can be after.

    3. If the trade is costing only Landale (8m) and Dipo (9.4m), it's near 20m salary that's giving us little to no production. With Clint we're getting something on the court for that same $20mil.

    4. If the deal cost us picks, could maybe spend a 2024 BKN pick. Team is already struggling to find playing time for (Amen & Cam), a 2024 draftee is another mouth to feed and develop. Clint is pre-made, can contribute immediately as a backup C.

Sidenote: Cav's Jarrett Allen was another 20m center originally on the trade block. A Clint alternative if you will, but with Mobley injured and Allen balling out, Cavs winning... Allen might not be on the market this season.

I'd hope a top 10 draft pick would fetch us more than 1 season of Capela....

20+M for a backup center seems to be a big tag, but Capela can play some starter minutes depending on the matchups. We can sub Sengun earlier in the 6 minute mark and then have Sengun come back near the end of the first quarter to kill the opposing 2nd unit. We can also have two big lineups against tall teams like Cavs and Minny. Considering Oladipo is paying 9+M, and he gives us nothing. Josh is paying 8+M, and he gives us virtually nothing. Capela's 20+M is really not that much. I still want them to go for Murray first because Uncle Jeff has been playing very well. Also, Murray is locked up until the 27-28 season and 30M is a good value for players of his caliber. As long as we don't have to include Tari, Sengun, Bari, Amen and Cam, we should go for it.

At current tankathon, the BK pick is 8th. Next draft class is supposedly weak. A big is possible at that range, I fear team might run into the fit (a big) vs upside. If pick is top ten, likely they'll go for the upside again. Regardless who is picked, question of needing time to develop that new draftee is still there.

Also after we get Clint, it's also possible to extend.

At mid way this season, it seems the low hanging fruits of improving team wins this season is already tapped. Clint will make the vets half of the team better.

In terms of getting Clint, I'm 60/40 in favor, but I can see the other side. Maybe Hawks is willing to part ways with just 2nd rounders.

That's a can of worms discussion :D. Up to Ime, but some thoughts.

In short: I would use Capela as a back up. Can also let Jeff Green rest a bit as Jeff has been logging lot of minutes. Jeff has been taking hits in games. (elbow to top head, nut shot, knee to knee), several this season.

In the Philly game, where both Alp and Jeff played, there were time where Tate was put on to defend Embido_O. Situationally should be no shortage of places to use a guy like Clint. Clint might not stop Joe-el, but would be more resistance than a shorter Tate.

Sengun makes less than 4mil right now, one of the benefits of a young guy on that sweet rookie deal, is to be able to afford better complimentary pieces short term.

If Sengun or Jeff miss a chunk of games, we'd be in trouble. We need front court depth.

If Clint agrees to an extension with us, team has a better trade chip asset down the road. It'll be more than what you could fetch with Dipo/Landale. Morey-ism of keep improving the asset value.

Having more good options is a good problem to have.

If Stone is just giving up expiring contracts and maybe some 2nds for Capela it's a no brainer. If Stone is thinking of coughing up the BKN 1st this year to get him that's a brainless move. That player could easily be a stud or net us much more value in return on or before Draft night.

I don't have any real interest in Clint Capela.

He can rebound, block some shots and roll to the basket.

He isn't as good as he was in the past, and defensively he is over-rated.

I would FAR rather go after someone like Onyeka Okongwu or Daniel Gafford or Isaiah Jackson even.

Okongwu can actually pass and is expanding his game as a shooter and Gafford is just a better player.

I do think that the Rockets long term are going to need a traditional center that can protect the paint, rebound and roll to the basket.

I also expect Sengun to improve as an outside shooter so that at times Sengun can play the 4 and a traditional center can play the 5 for 20-25 minutes a game with Sengun getting the other 20 minutes for the 5 spot and 15-20 minutes at the 4.

Even Nic Claxton is a better long term fit if the Rockets can extend him.

There is a reason that Capela is being actively shopped.

The problem with guys like Okongwu is they are (future) starters in this league and if you trade for them and do not make them a sure starter they will bolt.....thus making it a fruitless endeavor at worst.....at best a rental.....

You might just draft one and roll the dice and hope they stick around.

Okongwu is a younger, cheaper, and more skilled version of Capela. He will be a much better value than Capela if we are going to trade him in the future.

The problem is, Atlanta also sees the same point and probably won't trade him unless the pot is heavily sweetened. I'd give a FRP either our own or the Nets' for Okongwu.

That is why they rather trade Clint, there is always a reason to everything......

I do not see a fire sale, just a retool sale of 1 or 2 players.

Claxton would be a dream, and to me, he’d be worth giving up the 2024 Brooklyn pick if we could get an extension done. It would be interesting to see if there’s a world where Jalen for Claxton could happen.
