It really boggles the mind that with all the resources and coaching available these days that kids aspring to be professional athletes still grow up with such busted jump shots.
Shooting isn't a skill you can master with time and effort alone. Some people just suck at it despite effort. I can only hope he can get better like Lowry did (went from absolute garbage on the Rockets and then one offseason started his journey into being a deadeye shooter). Otherwise everyone in the league (top 0.1% ballers on the planet) would be a 50%+ shooter.
Some bad shooters become good shooters… a number of players improve once entering the league. Thompson has some insane quickness, athleticism, size… all he really needs to do is develop an okay three OR mid range jumper and he takes off. Is there a guarantee he will? No
Can't disagree here. Rationality would say work on the one thing that's the most valuable currency in the profession you want...
....what does draft status have anything to do with it? Yeah guy the player with like 300 career games not 10, who hasn't played well enough to stick anywhere else. That's the one. Holiday is 23-24 Gary Bird. He is a 3rd string, part time player who had an early season hot shooting streak and is now getting way too much run while playing like buttcheeks.
Can you name 1.......just 1 bad shooter that came into the league and became a GOOD shooter...... I can't think of a single one..... DD
I don't think he needs to be a good shooter. If he could become close to average his other tools should make up the difference. I'm just not convinced that he will become close to average anytime soon.
There’s no such thing as making up the difference especially not in the modern era. If a player cannot shoot it will always get exposed no matter what else he can do at some point or another he’ll need to be at min a respectable shooter. If not, well he’ll be a disappointment
He is a career 39.8% shooter, this year he is up to 45.5 - he still might regress to his mean - so, not a good shooter, unless he keeps it up all year..... A decent example of a "Maybe" are there any though that have proven it over their careers? DD
He shot 29% from 3 his rookie season who developed into a good 3 point shooter. He was a bad 3 point shooter. I remember because rockets played OKC in the bubble that season. They weren’t even trying to guard him. He was so wide open, they were daring him to shoot.
Karl Malone. He shot 48% from the free throw line as a rookie and he finished his career as a very reliable free throw shooter and his jumper was sweet too. He was not a shooter at all and became one. The league is littered with players that turn it around as a pro because shooting becomes a way of life. They have the time and budget to shoot 1,000 shots a day instead of 200 or 50 or whatever in high school.
Yes, he is ok, and again, he may be the ONLY example at some point, but right now I think he needs to prove it over a whole year. DD
If Amen had a shot he wouldn't have made it to the 4th pick..... Lets not act like it's uncommon at all to draft elite physical attributes.
