Nice! My mouth is already watering. I'm really looking forward to eating this year.

I've never deep fried a turkey before but I watched a rookie do it years ago and damn near scalded everyone involved. Now I know it has to be thawed completely like anything else that goes in oil.

Brine/inject it, take it out, let it air dry for a long time, then pat it down with paper towels

Hot oil and water are like pig and elephant DNA

I ordered some stuffed pork tenderloins wrapped in bacon man I hope they get here in time. That's just too much pig for me though.

My kids and wife hate turkey.
We do big ass steaks, potatoes, veg, and we crush some high quality cabs (not the kids)

I’m doing a Turkey but am going to try something different for the side dish. I’m going to do a rice and sweet potato dish instead of Bread stuffing. I’m going to adapt a Japanese recipe.

What's the recipe? I was gonna do some dirty rice and potato salad but would like to mix it up for the family.

I have a 22oz A5 Kagoshima wagyu NY strip. I’m also going to simmer some finger potatoes, finish them in butter and then seasonings and Parmesan.

The recipe can be as simple as cooking chunks of sweet potato with rice. You can do this in a rice cooker. Often the salt and Mirin is added to the water and then the dish is finished off with sesame seeds.

My plan is to cook chunks of sweet potato with glutinous rice. I’m going to do celery for more texture, sage, black pepper, salt and butter. Then the last hour of the Turkey cooking put it in the pan with the Turkey to soak up up the poultry flavor. The overall flavor will be more western than Japanese.

Picked up one of these on Saturday. Heard great things about it. Pretty excited. Wife is happy she doesn't have to focus on the turkey now. Should be scoring some excellent sides this year.

Thanksgiving is never the same after you lose your parents given all the little things they did to make the day special in the past. It makes me sick thinking about it. I also caught a bug this week and feel like crap. You’ll enjoy it whatever you eat.
