Does your being in Indiana change the hand Montgomery throws with? The Rangers have a better farm (at least in the eyes of other teams) than the Astros. They were going to make moves. This is about as good an outcome as the Astros could hope.
If the Astros do make a trade for a legit SP, it may very well have been this Montgomery trade that forced that issue
Let the Rangers destroy their Future for a 2 year Window. Astros want to Keep their Prospects and have a Longer Window.
The Rangers have made moves, to improve but I still don't see them obviously better than the Astros in a playoff series. Scherzer doesn't move the needle, and the Astros match up very well vs Montgomery as he is a lefty. What it does do is make the Rangers the favorites to fend off the Astros for the division which makes the Astros road much longer and more difficult. This needs to ensure that Brown brings in at least 1 more playoff calibur pitcher. A starter, another reliever, and a bat to produce vs RHP would still be ideal. Going on 48 hrs left. . .
Does your being in Indiana change what hand Montgomery throws? Also, according to FanGraphs, one of the prsopects would have been 2nd in the Astros Farm.
Rangers made great moves and frankly had more capital to do so. If we end up with JV, we'll be fine. If we end up with nobody, we'll be in for a fight just to get a WC spot.
Between the pregame Brantley swings and Dana’s SP comments—this all just looks like trade negotiation posturing. I would be shocked if Brantley comes back this year. To see him taking swings days before the deadline is interesting timing.
We need to trade maldonado. And Dusty. That would be the most successful deadline possible. I think I might throw in Gilbert with those two to get back a package of sunflower seeds.
An overabundance of starters, like the Astros had last season. It got us far, and it'll most likely get them far.
