Hawks fans are absolutely convinced they have KAT and they are working out the details. This could be related.
Celtics is interesting. Surfeit of big men now. Doubt we can pull off Robert Williams. Al Horford could be a possibility as a veteran mentor. We couldn't get Brook Lopez but maybe we can get his production by committee?
If it happened, would he play primarily 4 or 5? Would Capela stay or be shipped to a third team? Fun to speculate.
Capela would almost certainly need to go out just for salary matching and they are itching to promote Okongwu.
Could be a nice move IF KPjr is going out in a Capepa trade Seems like way too many moving pieces to be realistic
Just throwing insane scenarios out there: What about some kind of wild four-team trade where we end up with Embiid, the Heat end up with Lillard, and the Blazers and Sixers each end up with a smorgasbord of players & prospects from us and Miami? Sengun would clearly have to go out in the deal, and while I don't want to trade him, it's a no-brainer for the reigning MVP. Making the salaries work is difficult. I played with it on the trade machine for awhile and it would be an enormous package.
Wait till the 2024 off-season. Rockets could theoretically get rid of a core piece, expirings, picks for a disgruntled star.
Not really understand why they would give up Robert Time Lord Williams for a way undersized SF/PF that is Tate who did not play last year.
Possible involvement with the Celtics is over. They got below the second apron with Grant Williams S&T, they no longer have too many bigs, and Brogdon’s contract is too large for our cap space + Tate. Same with the Hawks / Raptors — if those teams do a deal it will be wrapped into the Collins to Utah trade to make salary matching easy. The only possible dump is Thaddeus Young from Toronto, which would be very minor. Capela is not coming to Houston, his contract is slightly larger than our cap space + Tate. The remaining candidates for our space (extraneous contracts on teams dealing with the tax): Marcus Morris Robert Covington Grayson Allen Duncan Robinson Thaddeus Young Kira Lewis That’s pretty much it. Stone will probably sit on his hands and save Tilman money instead.
Anything else that happens almost can't just involve our cap space at this point. We're three deep everywhere. FVV/Amen/Holiday Jalen/KPJ/Holiday Brooks/Tari/Whitmore Jabari/Tari/Green Sengun/Landale/Green And a number of those guys can play three positions too. If they make another player acquisition it would almost have to be a big trade that includes a rotation player going out in the deal.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect anything else. The team will be on the lookout for stars that can be payed the supermax and their team not willing to pay it for one reason or the other and then try to make an enticing offer. Pipe dream would be Jaylen Brown, but it seemed like the Celtics shed some salarys to be able to afford his super max - but basically those kind of players. Maybe Siakam.
I’d hate to see KPJ go since shooting was not as prominent in the free agent signings as I had anticipated. But if we are acquiring Capela, that’s probably the salary that’s going to have to go out. The team, as currently constructed, can’t be what Stone had in mind going into free agency, but I am afraid he’s going to dig a deeper hole trying to fix the blunder.
The best case scenario is for the Rockets to acquire Capela for KPJ. You get a defender and rim protector and a player who is familiar with the city and organization and by unloading KPJ you create minutes and opportunities for Amen and Cam to develop.
