She was a beautiful, talented woman, and a hell of a showman. Her act never felt "old," she maintained a coolness throughout her whole career. Also, man she always had some HOT backup dancers

R.I.P Miss Turner, you will be missed. I read her story about one of the beatings she’s got from Ike, he beat her so badly right before she went on stage, her face was swollen and her nose was broken and blood was gushing out when she sang. What a survivor and a great human.

RIP Tina Turner a music icon, great redemption story and lived a full life.

She had a little fun acting as well, hit a second peak in her 40s great to see.

More than a singer. What a woman!
Rest in peace, Tina. You've earned it and then some.

I wasn't a huge fan of hers growing up and hated "What's Love Got To Do With It" because it was so overplayed on radio stations. But as I got older, really liked that song and appreciated her more. RIP.

Was studying her catalog and found this, it was a great history and timeline of her voice and profile, worth your time.

Yeah, same. Now I understand that it's not her fault that the studio decided to give the production an upbeat, silly CASIO keyboard treatment. Her vocals were on point.

The other thing for me is that, growing up, I had an idea what "good singing" was and what a "good female voice" sounded like. Karen Carpenter, Whitney Houston, Minnie Ripperton, Roberta Flack, etc. When I listened to Tina? That wasn't it. She was gravelly/harsh-sounding to me. Somewhere along the way, it all changed. I started liking Tina's voice because of the emotion and her backstory. Almost like the sound was a transfer of her life-story/misery. For the same reason, I didn't like Janis Joplin as a kid because I wasn't really into blues or rock as a kid and she just sounded like a bunch of screaming. Somewhere that, too, changed once I actually started to listen to the sound instead of just the song.

the singer and the song must meet. would you prefer to hear Minnie sing Proud Mary, or Tina sing Lovin' You? They're both great artists, and like the others you list, gone too soon.

...and one doesn't have to like only one genre of music. Great singing transcends genres.
