http://sports.tom.com/1019/1042/2004727-390811.html Geeeeez, Shaquille O'Neal must feel very bored in his new home in Miami!!! According to the above article, Shaq failed to trim down his fat contents even he kept going to the gym after he moved to Miami. His fat contents had risen to above 15% !! He must have felt bored by his weight-lifting/biking routines in the gym. So for a change, he phoned up the Magic Man, Antonio Tarver (22 career wins, 1 loss, 18 knockouts), the current light heavy weight boxing world champion and challenged him for a fight. Tarver accepted the challenge, and the charity boxing match will be held at Universal Studio on August 6, with all gate receipts going to charity !! Pat Riley said: we had stringent requirements of the fat contents of our players: Under 8% for the guards and Under 10% for the forwards. Maybe Shaq think this is a good way to get himself trimmed down. So what do you guys think?? Can Shaq (32 years old, 7ft 1, 340lb) beat Antonio Tarver (35 years old, 6ft 2, under 175lb) ??
This has to be a joke. Regardless, if this does go off, I am sure it will be more of a friendly sparing kind of match. If Tarver wanted to, he could pepper Shaq with 300 punches before O'Neal could run away.
Here is some idea for Shaq. Hook up with Lance, and train for the Tour De France next year. If he wins, I'll give the MDE name to him.
Well, IMO, this is for REAL, as it was also reported in South Florida Sun-Sentinel and San Jose Mercury News about this charity boxing show. And in the Chinese article that I quoted from tom.com, it also mentioned that tickets are on sales now with the minimum ticket price set at US$ 125 .
I'm not sure whether it is TRUE. But the tom.com article did mentioned that the match will be televised LIVE for a lot of countries.
So what are the body fat requirements for the MDE. 15%? 12%? Dude, if Shaq could get down to 12%, he'd roughing up the league like never before. He'd be as in shape as his orlando days, but with the experience and dominance of his laker days.
Watch some videos of Shaq when he first came into the league... nothing that big should move that fast. Scary. Still my favorite highlight of Shaq was when he brought that goal down where he blew the suspension in the stand with a dunk and it came collapsing down. I wonder if that was staged...
You never know, Shaq is one big boy. The fight is for charity, so it will probably be a sparing match.
It probably will be a friendly kind of sparring. However, if I were Pat Riley, I would not want my new All-World center fighting some professional fighter, even if the fighter gives up a foot and almost 200 pounds. This guy has probably been fighting for years, and I wouldn't want to take the chance on Shaq getting his side of his head caved in.
