So you would trade away a future great young player for a rent-a-player who is on the other side of his career, is a cap killer, and is always out of shape? What happens when Shaq retires or his contract expires since you're not giving him an extension? You're stuck looking for a quality big man. I'd rather have a team grow into a contender then mortgage the future. The difference is, instant gratification or future rewards.
Some people would say YAO is yet to still hit his prime.....welll YAO can hit his prime and finish his prime....he will never have the dominace as SHAQ!! YAO has yet to prove that he has the killer instinct a la "the dream or Shaq diesel".......and his chracter and personality says he probbly won't ever get it. Hopefully he will be a solid 20 & 10 guy and hope that someone late in the game will take the superstar responsibility and finish games for us. YES SHAQ for YAO in a heartbeat.....even if its for three years or so. But its not gonna happen we can only hope that the rockets personel can get Yao to have that edge that the great ones have and even then his body at 7 foot 5 in can handle it for 8+ years ( without any major injury)....hes already getting nic and nacs!!
Playoff time YAO will not give us 40 & 20 like SHaq has done time and time over....okay maybe once or twice he is capable of such numbers, but far less than SHAQ Only point I have is YAO can be a nice guy off the court, but on the court be like SHAQ! THats the only differnece between the two.....better yet be more like AMare Stoudamire....hes an animal!!! Oh and thats was a nice sound bite Choujie!!
You don't ignore Yao's good side and force him to be the person he isn't and will never be. He has good knowledge of the game, and a cool head. Can take over games if necessary. I would rather him to be a Duncan, Bird type player than a pseudo Shaq or Dream. Just complement him with the right players and harvest our rings in the next decade.
Exactly. I don't know why some people here want to make Yao into another "banger". He's body, agility for his height, and skills are not made for that. He won't be able to last long physically in this league going that route. The only area I want Yao to be 'monster' on is on blocks, considering his height. On offense however, I'd rather he be more of a point center jumpshooter, he has a 20ft range, pretty light on his feet with a good drive to the basket for his size, and good passing skills for god's sake, USE IT. And as far as the low post game goes.. I'd prefer it to be ala duncan, aggressive in getting and making the shot, jumphooks, fadeaways, (wouldn't mind a skyhook ) but not aggressive in 'banging and dunking' ala Shaq. Let his dunks come as they come to Duncan, don't force him.
iTS NOT ABOUT BEING A BANGER....dREAM WAS NOT A BANGER BUT HE TOOK OVER WHEN HE NEEDED TO......HE SHOWED HIS TEAMMATES BY EXAMPLE.......THATS ALL i WISH yAO WOULD DO aLL POINTS SHOW ITS NOT HAPPENING...BUT I WANT WHAT YALL WANT TOO...JUST SPEAKING in another point of view
Yao has the physical tools to bang. I agree with JVG. Yao should be 50% power plus 50% fitness to maximize his potential. I am against forcing Yao to be his right opposite. But don't think he has problem to mix fitness with power. He'll find his comfort zone and have a successful career ala Dream.
If you can have Shaq and Tmac in the same team, does it mean you may have a guaranteed 3 years in a row champion?
If that were the case, Yao would be in Purple and Gold now. Rudy and the new Lakers would absolutely like it.
