http://www.asportal.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1665 A friend of mine heard on 610 out of Philly that Beltran has been dealt to the Phillies for Gavin Floyd and Ryan Howard amongst others. I also saw it posted on 2 other websites. Anyone heard of this??
If this is true, I must say the Astros might have actually made a good deal... Gavin Floyd was "untouchable" as of two days ago. But, I guess the Phillies defensive blunders in CF (see Sunday's game vs. the Cubs) have come back to haunt them. Of course, if true, it would not be good in the fact that we still have yet to play the Phillies... I don't want to have our pitchers face Beltran for 6 whole games. Then again, if we have one more loss in this D'back series, this team really won't have a realistic chance of being in contention anyways...
There is a thread on the Astros message board that says we traded Beltran + Micelli to the Dodgers for Encarnacion, Mota and some minor league pitcher. Rumors are everywhere today.
Beltran is so gone. The Astros dont' have the $15 million a year to resign him, so it is adios Carlos, its been nice to know you.
Gavin Floyd would probably jump right in to the starting rotation - it would be a good move by the Astros.
There's really no way the Phillies trade Gavin Floyd... he's one of THE top pitching prospects in baseball (he just pitched in the future's game, for heaven's sake), and the Phillies shouldn't mortage that for a CF who's probably not going to re-sign with them. Besides... isn't the Phillies real need starting pitching? They've got plenty of offense and team speeed (Burrell, Thome, Abreu, Rollins), but its the fact that they can't get their starters past the 5th inning, and that's killing their good, but overused, bullpen.
I suppose if CB had been dealt, or if he were on the verge of being dealt, then he would be sitting not hitting at MM tonite.
