I think he is a good QB coach but in this day and time, lacking in creative play calling. I think the other person might have been saying you can’t back away from Young because he was hamstrung by O’Brien’s offense.
BoB is a smart guy, he just has a massive ego and tends to take on more than he’s capable of because he only trusts himself. I think it’s a net benefit to have a former nfl head coach that has been around multiple successful QBs in Tom Brady and Deshaun Watson letting you know the type of preparation it will take to be great at the next level. I wouldn’t want him to be my OC because I think he’s just not as creative and QB friendly as other people and as an overall leader of men, his temperament is just too up and down. He does seem to have a great relationship with players that he feels are married to the game so I think that’s a good sign that Bryce Young is the real deal in that department.
If a team jumps to #1 and takes a QB, I'm taking Will Anderson. If you really want a top 4 QB after that, you can trade up or hang tight and see who is available at #12. This waiting may not get you a suitable QB, so you really need to take a Vet from FA to cover your bases and take a flyer on a guy like Duggan further down. Ideally, if you can get out of the first with two BPAs like Anderson and say Skoronski or Quentin Johnson, with a decent Vet QB, you are in good shape. The search for your franchise QB goes on - there's always next year.
Nah. Tom Brady didnt need Buttchin. Watson didnt need Buttchin who else was able to succeed here during the QB carousel? . Alabama didnt need Buttchin they can literally trot out ANY 4 or 5 star high school QB and the supporting cast will catapult them. Only thing Buttchin can teach is probably the nomenclature of the EP system.
A very fair post. You don't win a championship in an unfriendly QB system. His players always played hard for him. Agreed, that his temper hurt him. That Irish temper sometimes got the best of him.
People love Bashing B.O.B in here, but we all need to separate his coaching from his GM'ing. He was a more than capable coach. When he got Deshaun, the offense was humming. He also did well offensively at other stops (Penn State-post penalty, Bama, and NE.) We can't just say that all the success was in spite of him and all the failures were on him. Either way, regardless of if Bryce "did what he did" in spite of BOB or because of BOB, he "did what he did"....
Workhorse running back and two tremendous receivers who could turn a 10 yard pass into a 90 yard TD hid some flaws. This year, without those playmakers, most Bama fans became frustrated with play calling. To be fair, we may have expected too much coming off Kiffin and Sark as our OC.
If you believe in Young, the answer is yes. I believe BOB did a great job of preparing Young for the NFL. But I still wouldn't pick him for the reasons that have been discussed.
