Quarterback B.J. Symons agreed to a three-year, $944,058 contract with the Texans on Wednesday. The deal includes a $24,058 signing bonus.

Symons, who played at Texas Tech and Cypress Creek, is the fifth of the Texans' nine draft picks to sign. Taken with Houston's final pick in the seventh round, Symons will earn NFL minimum base salaries of $230,000 in 2004, $305,000 in 2005 and $385,000 in 2006.

Symons is recovering from offseason knee surgery and could begin the season on the physically unable to perform list to allow the injury time to heal or be assigned to the team's eight-player practice squad.

In his only season as a starter for Texas Tech, Symons set 23 NCAA records, including most passing yards in a single season (5,833).

The Texans could be nearing a contract agreement with linebacker Charlie Anderson, a sixth-round selection from Mississippi, by the end of the week.

The other remaining unsigned draft picks are cornerback Dunta Robinson, the team's top choice, safety Glenn Earl and cornerback Vontez Duff.

Also Wednesday, the Texans released fullback Charles Stackhouse.

In other news, the Texans will make a limited number of single-game tickets available to the general public through all Ticketmaster outlets beginning Friday at 10 a.m.

There is a limit of eight tickets per customer for all games except the Nov. 21 Sunday night game against Green Bay. The limit is two tickets per person for that game.

Also, a limited number of free tickets for five evening training-camp practices will be available at all Foley's Ticketmaster outlets beginning Saturday at 11 a.m. Fans visiting the Memorial City Foley's can get an early start at 9 a.m.

    The five practices open to the public are from 7:05 p.m. to 9:05 p.m. on Aug. 2, 9, 11, 17 and 19.
