People. Learn the difference between dominant and dominate. Of all the bad grammar on this board (including my own posts) that error drives me absolutely loony. I lose IQ points every time I see dominate used in place of dominant and I don't have that much IQ left. Puzzlingly, it seems this is a fairly recent phenomenon. My guess is some Tik-Tok guy made the error and everyone thought, "Oh, that's how you use that word." No, no it's not. I doubt many of us know the difference between a verb and an adjective, but here's the skinny on these two words according to reputable sources--like every physical and online dictionary that posters apparently cannot access: As far as pronunciation goes, dominate rhymes with nominate and dominant rhymes with prominent. Still not clear? Here are some examples: "The Rockets were dominant in the NBA during the 1990s and they dominate the lottery today." "Tilman has a dominant position in bad middle-class eateries and continues to dominate the NBA in nepotistic hires." "Coach Silas dominates press conferences with his grin but has yet to build a dominant team." "The Astros dominate the Yankees every year, which has led to a dominant 6-year run run in Major League Baseball." "Farmer John had a dominant lycanthropic gene that allowed him to dominate the field-dwelling coyotes every full moon." "Rimrocker may not be the dominant poster on ClutchFans, but he would absolutely dominate every member who had the guts to take him on in horseshoes." So, please do better. Thank you.

I always thought it was auto-correct correcting it to "dominate" because I thought there can't be this many people that think "dominant" should be "dominate".
