Sorry, I didn't realize it was a sincere question.

The pandemic happened. Logically, that should've dramatically reduced the number of visa overstays for the past few years. That will impact the trends.

"Going forward, do you believe that flights into major airports will continue to be the #1 source of illegal immigrants?"

The pandemic has impacted many things but to what degree to the US illegal immigration 10-years trend of a 2 to 1 ratio of visa overstay vs border crossing? It's not likely to change much. By far, the #1 illegal immigration issue IS visa overstays and very likely will continue to be that way going forward.

    What I believe is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that the people who decry the status of our border and stopping illegals from Mexico from getting in don't seem to have a problem with people entering in through airports and overstaying their visa.

IMO, that's a shortsighted perspective. It's significantly easier to curb illegal immigration at the southern border than it would be to dramatically reduce illegal immigration from overstayed visas. Surely you agree, right?

Given that, doesn't it make sense to first address the easier problems?

Also, I question the accuracy of your 2:1 ratio. I found this article:

    https://www.npr.org/2019/01/10/6836...tion-mostly-occur-heres-what-the-data-tell-us

Which compares visa overstays to border apprehensions. Does your source use a different metric than "border apprehensions"?

Actually no. The border is massive, and putting a wall up is silly because they can dig under or just climb over. They will find the weak links - and learn where to cross. It's a lot of money spent on low effective strategies, and it also disrupts wildlife movements and much of the land is private land.

At least with Visa overstays you know the person's name and whether they left the country. You know you have an illegal in the country, you just don't know where. You also forget that many of the illegals at the border are smuggled in. Do you think US industry is not involved? They don't have people they can afford to pluck your fruit or do a lot of the jobs that make your cost of living lower. Most people don't want to pay more in prices, you think the they couldn't just go to farms and kitchens and round up illegals? They don't for a reason.

Your logic doesn't make sense. Even if the border is massive, it's not as massive as the United States. It'd be easier to address immigration at the points of entry than it would be to search for visa overstays in the US. Plus, wouldn't our government be able to find those same weak link points of entry?

I think your logic undermines your point. If the border allows in an unknown number of immigrants, then shouldn't it be a bigger priority than visa overstays, which are a known quantity?

This is downright silly. Neither party wants to do anything to stop illegal immigration. In the instances where they go on "raids" to find them, it's all for show.

Industries such as restaurant/hospitality/General contractors/Farmers/Ranchers and I could go on and on will make substantial contributions to keep their low payed-highly productive workforce.

We all hate this inflation, without this workforce, we'd be forever stuck in it, unless we all started having a lot more babies and taught them what really hard work was, maybe in 20 years, we would be ok.

Neither party wants those contributions to stop and be the party that raised the prices on essentially everything so that the racists can be happy.

If you don't think this is factual, look up when Georgia in I believe was in the 1990's took a proactive effort and for the most part got rid of this workforce. It's funny because there are parts of Georgia that want to try this again, seems they have short memories.

Here is a proactive thing that all the "hate illegals" can do to actually make a difference. STOP PURCHASING ANYTHING THAT WAS PRODUCED/MANUFACTURED WITH ILLEGAL LABOR. BOYCOTT. Until then all I read is b****ing and moaning, just like your party wants. Stop being played.

Because they are not illegal immigrants when they arrive on flights into major airports. I agree though that visa overstays are a big problem. Let's deport both visa overstays and illegal border crossers immediately upon discovery.

So the issue isn't illegal immigration per se...it's better if visiting people become illegal vs illegal people staying illegal?

US puts very little effort into hunting down VIsa overstays. In fact, you usually can get the problem fixed into staying longer through an immigration lawyer. Privilege has its benefits

These are the facts, not my logic. And the facts are that visa overstays are what contribute to the majority of illegal immigration. Yet conservatives focus on the border, and building a wall, which has shown to not work. Because even then, most illegals don't come over the natural border but just pass right through a checkpoint.

If you want to address this issue, you have to first start by knowing that facts - that's my point.

Biden can stem the tide by instituting some of the previous administration's policies. Title 42 expires soon so the record number of crossings will increase. It sounds like the CA governor is beginning to take notice with his recent comments.

    WaPo:

Opinion: The border crisis has never been worse. And Biden seems fine with it.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/12/14/immigration-crisis-border-crossing-biden/

    excerpt:

Last year, President Biden presided over a record crisis at the U.S. border with Mexico. This year, by every conceivable metric, that crisis got far worse.

In the 2021 fiscal year, we had more than 1.7 million encounters at the Southern border. That was a record … until this fiscal year, when it rose to almost 2.4 million. And the 2023 fiscal year, which began in October, has already seen more than 500,000 encounters — putting us on track to exceed this year’s record.

That’s not all. In 2021, there were nearly 390,000 known “gotaways” — migrants we know evaded U.S. Customs and Border Protection and slipped into the country; this year, the number of gotaways grew to more than 600,000. In 2021, there were 15 terrorism watch list arrests at the border; this year, that grew to 98 (and who knows how many violent criminals were among the gotaways). In 2021, more than 557 migrants are known to have died crossing the border illegally; this year, that rose to more than 800 migrants. That figure does not include a 22-year-old National Guard soldier, Sgt. Bishop E. Evans, who gave his life trying to save two drowning migrants crossing the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, Tex., and other agents killed in the line of duty.

As bad as that is, things are about to get worse when Title 42 — the Trump-era public health order that has allowed border officials to turn away hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants to prevent the spread of covid-19 — expires on Dec. 21. When migrants can no longer be expelled under this order, even more will try illegal crossings — and the floodgates will truly open. Yet the Biden administration is pushing for a cut in funding for detention beds in the omnibus spending bill from the current level of 34,000 to 25,000 just as the need for these beds will dramatically increase.

It has increased a bunch since those 2019 reports so it is likely still not 2 to 1 but you make a good point highlighting the significant overstay immigration problem.

For the 12 months ending Sept. 30, 2022, CBP stopped migrants more than 2,766,582 times, compared to 1.72 million times for fiscal 2021, the previous yearly high. The 2022 numbers were driven in part by sharp increases in the number of Venezuelans, Cubans and Nicaraguans making the trek north, according to CBP.

America's past 100 years of financing death squads and propping up fascist governments so American companies can extract profits from them has really paid off!

    Great work fellas

No, it is that when they come into contact with law enforcement for the first time, they aren't illegal aliens yet. At some future point, when they are not at a point of entry, they become an illegal alien. As I said, once that happens, deport them if you can find them. This group has at least been vetted to some degree though, going through immigration control and customs. Your wanted terrorists and the like would hopefully be screened out at the airport. No such luck with someone secretly crossing the border illegally.
You can get illegal crossing fixed into staying longer with an immigration lawyer, too. In fact, even without a lawyer, your removal hearing is likely to be pretty far off.

You are missing the point though. Treat them both the same, but that treatment should be immediate deportation. So back to the beginning, the issue is illegal immigration. Let's stop it.

So an illegal immigrant isn't illegal until they interface with law enforcement. If they jump over the wall they are fine until they run into law enforcement?

You do realize that someone who overstays their visa isn't very unlikely to have their immigration status ever looked into even if stopped by a cop. Even if they show their passport. Law enforcement doesn't do the work of ICE. And white people who overstay their Visa can live in the US for years without ever having contact with law enforcement. I say this as I knew tons of Europeans who overstay their visa in NYC and live normally without any issues. They are even able to leave and go back to a country like Ireland to visit home, and pop back right over.

The vetting process is like this - if you are from Ireland and many other countries - you're cool. Not a terrorist, and no problemo come and leave - over stay your visa. If you are from other places, especially places where people are brown, then you are probably illegal. Even legal US citizens get deported sometimes.

But I guess that's fair to you, right?

Well one thing we can do is every time the majority of the folks South of the Border try to get a bigger share of the pie from their oligarchs who are in bed with our elites, we sanction them or overthrown their governments.
