If you were Carlos Boozer and you had agreed to do a deal with Clevland and then Utah comes in and offers you $28 million more for the same number of seasons. Would you stay for less, or take the money? Simple poll..... Me.....I would take the money. DD
Do the right thing and try to scrape by on $41 million. I know Boozer spends a lot, but he is young and has time to build up his savings.
Mr Clutch, The only problem is that he could get injured and his career could be over, or his wife could leave him and take half.... Yadda yadda yadda....money talks. DD
I will go with a third option, which is take the Utah offer to the Cavs and ask them to match it. If they don't, run to Utah!
And so he'd be left with $20.5 million. The horror. The RIGHT thing would have been to let the Cavs pick up his option and wait till next year to make his money. If he wants security, then you take the less money. One or the other. Yeah, money talks. What's your point? I don't have to sit here and like it.
Carlo$ i$ ju$t doing what he think$ i$ be$t for both he and hi$ family. He al$o i$ ju$t trying to find the $ituation that will allow for the mo$t $ucce$$ for the re$t of hi$ career.
No problem ! I just disagree....you have a finite amount of time to play, and no one will begrudge him for getting all he can and playing by the rules. He had NO DEAL with Clevland, that would be illegal under the CBA. He is a smart man, and he is getting a good deal. DeAleck, Yes, Clevland can match it....they have that right already...they should stop whining and get to work. Batite for our TE... DD
DaDa, We have yet to see if he is a smart man. His agent quit on him and that Coach K is trying to tell him to do the ethical thing. This could come back to bite him. It will also screw over other players when the NBA changes the rules. But let's say he does get away with it. That's fine. People will forget. But real the story is still that he lied and did NOT play by the rules. Just say that and I'll agree with you.
It's not that simple of a poll. Are we assuming for this poll that Boozer made a promise or that no promises were made?
Coach K.... WHO THE HECK CARES WHAT COACH K says? That is a joke right.....it will bite him in the A......????? When, how? He has 28 million MORE dollars. There is no downside to this for Boozer....people won't care outside of Clevland. Heck, if the Rockets had done the offer we would all be laughing our A$$es off at Clevland's dunderheadedness. DD
Assume that Boozer IMPLIED that he would sign with Clevland. As there can be NO verbal contract or official agreement prior to the option renewel or decline. DD
I would go back and ask for a one year deal like the one Cleveland is now offering him. Then next year I go for the huge bucks.
Taking the money is a no-brainer. Reputation, quite frankly, is VASTLY overrated. Houston fans didn't exactly care that Francis forced out of Vancouver. Denver fans didn't boo John Elway. The Raptors once screwed the Rockets by reneging on the Stoudamire deal. Nobody remembers these things a few years down the road. Boozer has no need to negotiate a contract for the next 6 years. After 6 years, if he becomes a perenial all-star, do you REALLY think teams are going to all low-ball him on his next contract? Of course not, they're going to give him the red carpet treatment and offer him max or near-max money. Of course, no team is ever going to make any wink-wink deals with Boozer. But why in the world would he need any more of those deals?
Just because there can't be agreement under CBA rules doesn't mean Boozer didn't make an illegal deal with the Cavs. You're assuming Boozer is an honorable person and has not done anything illegal. I assume he's guilty, he did make an illegal agreement, I suggest both Boozer and the Cavs to be punished by the NBA, Cavs give up 3 years of 1st rounder and fined 3 mil, and Boozer suspended for 1 season. And so the final answer is, Boozer can't take either deal because he can't sign until the start of next offseason.
