[Poll] Do you think the Rockets should tank or try to win?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by MystikArkitect, Jul 17, 2022.

?

What do you want the Rockets to do this season?

  1. Win and shoot for playoffs/play in. Fill out roster with Free Agents.

  2. Lose as much as possible for another high draft pick.

  3. Lose organically while still experimenting. Aim for a decently high draft pick.

Results are only viewable after voting.

Going from 20 to 30 games could easily happen. 30 wins is not competitive its just better. The Rockets were definitely trying to lose down the stretch. If the FO wants them to try and win every game, 30 is obtainable in my opinion. This is still a re-build year. Personally i think they can’t help, but not be the worst team in the league this year. The Spurs, Magic, and probably Thunder and Utah will be tanking on purpose from day one. My guess is the Rockets will unintentionally, intentionally tank by not adding any vets this year and will win between 25-30 from defensive improvements and a much better transition game.

In an extreme case of a turnaround for KD's Thunder. It was his 3rd year.

    2007 - Durant's 1st year. - 20 wins.

    2008 - Durant 2nd year + Westbrook 1st - 23 wins.
Coach change of PJ to Scott Brooks after 13 games into the season when PJ was 1-12.

2009 - KD 3rd year, Russ (2nd year), added Ibaka and Harden. - 50 wins.

Its a Championship or bust year for The Rockets... They need to try and win as many games possible to lock up home court advantage.

they should be trying to win games and look competent…they should be trying to improve on both ends of the court

Does that mean going and signing mediocre vets to long-term deals in order to squeeze out a couple more wins? No

But just going out there hoping to lose as many games as possible? Fck all that

for example, I would take a season like last year’s Pelicans where they made the play-in and had a fun showing in the playoffs over tanking for lotto balls and getting our ass whooped in embarrassing fashion every night

They can try to win and still end up with a top 5-6 pick.

There has to be teams at the bottom of the standings. And the Rockets could still be one of those teams.

I don't expect the Rockets to make the playoffs but they will have more wins compared to the last two seasons.

F that I'm tired of losing. This team has had the worst record in the league the last two years and failed to walk away with the #1 pick.

Yeah, which means another year of septic tanking.

People who are thinking pragmatic now with the 5-8th pick will change their tune months from now when the Rockets land the 7th pick and could've dropped three spots with three to five more losses...

We should explore opportunities to give Nets incentive to tank this year. This would allow us to focus on winning more games this year AND increase our odds for Scoot/Victor. During the Durant trade we should try to get in the mix and bring back something of value for the Nets 2024 pick while keeping the 2023 swap. We still want to keep some of their picks though.

I'd say an increased chance at #1/2 >>> 2024 Nets pick.

*Note: We only do this IF the Durant trade is obvious Nets are going to tank

    Guaranteed top five pick please.

    No reason to rush this.

Be strategic, be smart, trust the process.

Those ten extra feel good wins gonna feel real shitty at next years draft lottery.

We're still in development, so we should stay the course. Let 'em play and let it play out.

The Rockets will be a fun, fast pacing team. The only think I’m concerned is the interior defense. I hope they sign Bruno, he has the physicality the Rockets need. Green and Porter is going to lead this team, Sengun with his elite passing, Christopher and Gordon will bring the offense punch and Jabari, Tate, Bruno and Eason will lock down the opponent’s best players.

    dont fill holes this season...
let everybody give their all - no tanking... work the culture of hustle..
we're prob still a lottery team...
either get lucky in the lottery or add some assets to our pick to move up...
get 1 more nice piece from the draft...
    fill holes via free agency...
    playoffs next year!

Lose. Trade/sit Gordon. Play Eason/TyTy/Garuba legitimate minutes. Tate at SF. 25 wins max.

My dream season: Our guys learn to play together and do everything brilliantly, except they miss shots and layups. Just enough to give us one more top-5 pick. Then, mysteriously, the shooting falls into place the next season, and all those tragically close Ls become Ws.

Jabari is already leading the way with his magically disappearing jumper in summer league. I didn't even have to whisper the plan in his ear.

People act like 19 and 20 year old can compete realistically against seasoned players and teams.

This isn't magic johnson who was a freak of nature at 19.

People act like we have the option to choose one or the other. We have a bright future, but no matter how hard we try, it’s unlikely we win more than 30-35 games, tops. We won 20 games last year, and that was w a fluke win streak. We aren’t tanking, we just aren’t good enough to compete yet. As not a knock on our players. We’re young as hell. Enjoy watching them develop, enjoy another lottery pick, and in 2-4 more years, we’re really going to be something.

Sorry if people don’t like that timeframe, but that’s the reality.
