No go on Scottie Barnes https://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/raptors-scottie-barnes-off-limits-trade-talks/600183?amp or is it negotiation tactic?
PHI: Eric Gordon (HOU) IND: Thybulle (PHI) + Korkmaz (PHI) + Niang (PHI) + Nwaba (HOU) + BRK 2024 FRP (top 10 protected) (via HOU) HOU: Turner (IND) + Milton (PHI) Trademachine says it works, but doesn't seem like Philly is giving up enough salary
jazz and kings will give nets better deal than us for simmons. but if simmons could be had for gordon the 23 bucks pick and the 24 nets pick that's a good trade. the problem with the trade is simmons sengun bari green kpjr is a playoff competitor. it ends our pursuit of a high lottery pick unless we intentionally sit simmons down. that is our big dilemma in trades right now. we're one good/great nba player away from being a legit lower end playoff competitor.
What would we use the picks for? To draft a PG or wing? We get both with Simmons. Besides, other than GSW, you don't build a title contender through the draft. Eventually you have to go get talent.
Expanding @jch1911 trade: PHI: Eric Gordon, Joe Harris, Usman Garuba ATL: Kevin Durant, KJ Martin BKN: John Collins, Bogdan Bodanovich, David Nwaba + Hawks 2028 FRP + Sixers 2029 FRP + Rockets 2027 FRP + Hawks 2023 and 2025 SRP + Sixers 2024 SRP + Hawks 2027 swap + Sixers 2028 swap + Pacers 2025 swap IND: Tobias Harris + Rockets 2025 FRP + Rockets 2026 SRP HOU: Myles Turner, Matisse Thybulle, Jalen Johnson, Paul Reed + Pacers 2023 swap
Oh my god Brooklyn management is going to be so mad if John Collins is the best player they can manage to scrounge up in the Durant haul. Love that you didn't give back any of Brooklyn's picks, but I don't think they'd go for that. haha
It seems a pretty nice trade for almost all parties, all things considered. Philly is desperate to dump Harris - and getting back EGo, and Joe Harris would be a win (cost of a pick and a swap and a 2nd would be ok) Atlanta make out like bandits here - KD for 2 picks and a swap! They also get to ditch Collins contract, at the cost of Jalen Johnson (but keep Hunter - so probably ok!) BKN gets a decent haul in terms of picks - AND 2 players who can contribute in the here and now Indy is probably the roadblock here - taking on bad salary to get a pick - but Tobias might fit in with what they are trying to do? (I think perhaps send Garuba to Indiana in this deal, and leave Paul Reed at Philly - who is a superior prospect anyway) Houston - nice haul. At first glance it looks like swapping 2 firsts and a second for 3 players who most likely would produce more, and also fit into something of a "develop the team around Jalen and Jabari" kind of timeline - and Jalen Johnson has extreme talent levels anyway
Sorry, also it's the talent and the cap space. If Simmons was still on a rookie deal or you had a worse contract to swap that would be different. Most teams would not want to sign him for what he's making.
I'd agree with that, but right now we have two all star caliber players making a fraction of what most starters make. Moreover, talent attracts talent... We've seen that time and again. Also, we can exceed the cap to resign them. We could also get two solid years out of Simmons then trade him for far more than what we traded to get him, or for whatever may be a better fit next to our two stars. The only downside is...more wins. But we've got potential talent for days, it won't do us any good to go get more if none of them reach the level that Simmons is right now (highly unlikely). Now is the time we should be capitalizing on other teams misery by filling out our cap with stars and studs before we dish out boatloads to the guys we've drafted.
I don't think a roster that features JG and JSjr would be average offensively, although if it were, you simply go get a Gallinari off the bench because guys want to play for WINNING teams with WINNING players.
No trade suggestions (sorry), but a position still of dire need is a proper centre with some height that can protect the rim. - Smith is not a centre, never was and won't be. He's a 4 that can play 2 or 3. And I hope we don't see him at the 5 again. - Garuba is a bust. - Boban.... No thanks. - Sengun. Can play 48min every game. Ayton would be a great move IMO, but not for the max (so it won't happen). With a promising squad of KPJ, Green, JGup, Smith and others, we desperately need a top big.
What does that have to do with Simmons? I agree there are parts of his game that directly address needs on the team. My point was that's a lot of resources for a guy who is a role player and not a star. Right now, he's a better version of Shaun Livingston. Worth having on your team but not for 30+ million. If he was making 12-15 I would be in favor of dealing for him. If they wait a year and can't find a taker for the cap space they can absorb him without taking contracts back. We'll also have a better idea where his game is after being on the shelf. Then we can evaluate what to give up for him...
Another thought if Brooklyn wants to use Durant to correct their mistake with Harden... To Suns Durant Gordon K Martin To Nets 2023 pick swap 2024 nets pick 2025 pick swap 2026 Suns pick Crowder Shamet Craig Nwaba Burke Brown Chriss To Rockets Bridges Payne Saric C Johnson 2024 Suns pick 2027 Suns pick swap Nets free up cap space and get control of their picks for the next 3 seasons. Suns get Durant for Bridges, Saric, Payne, 2 picks, and a pick swap. Gordon gives them great depth behind Paul and Booker. Martin starts next to Durant. Rockets get a long term fit at SF and hedge their draft assets splitting between Brooklyn and Phoenix. They also get a potential PG solution and forward depth. Probably an overpay on the nets assets so maybe one less swap returned...
Might be a decent gamble because he can shoot and would be top 5 target if he was a free agent next year... free agents next year are that bad...
Here is my pitch for getting a pick out of Gordon: Rockets: Dario Saric 2024 Lottery Protected FRP from Suns Spurs: Deandre Ayton (max deal) Suns Eric Gordon Jakob Poeltl The Suns clearly don’t want to pay Ayton a max contract and likely could replace his production via Jakob. Eric Gordon would also be a great addition to provide more firepower to them. They do send out one FRP for Gordon, but in their championship hopes it should be well worth it, all in sort of deal anyways. This is of course, assuming that they can’t get a deal done for KD. Ayton has been linked to the Spurs in the past and would be a decent re-building piece to add. Rockets get an expiring contract and the Suns also get two expiring contracts if they decide to blow it up after next year.
