Why would he research something that in his mind he mistakenly thought to be true? I don't think there was a sliver of doubt in his mind that KPJ wasn't Kevin Porter's son.

It blows my mind that someone can be 100% without a sliver of doubt about a fact that he just made up in his mind without any evidence.

But a normal commentator would fact check things that come up in their head before announcing it to the world, think it's part of their job to be correct.

Someone making a mental gaffe blows your mind? Either you live in a utopian world of perfect excellence or your mind is easily blown.

Mental Gaffe is when someone mis-speaks. He didn't mis speak, he was just lazy.

Again I know a lot of people that like to spout off random facts which are complete BS, but those people aren't commentators of an NBA team.

Your holding hometown team commentators to WAY too high of a standard. You must not watch many NBA League Pass games. The amount of things they get wrong on opposing teams (not to mention unheralded players on awful teams) is constant and unending...the mistakes are also very minor and understandable/forgivable, much like this one.

Why are you so vested in the infallibility of the local sports commentator in Washington DC?

You can call him lazy but if he did do it on purpose then he was condoning the shooting of a child. Plus losing his job of course. So I just think lazy and made a mistake. To be fair, Calvin used to talk about cookies trying to find his cookies half the game and Clyde about clubbing baby seals. I think people are giving the commentators too much credit lol. They probably show up and have a stat sheet in front of them.

This is worse than Drexler talking about clubbing baby seals, but not as bad as telling a GM to shut up about China because he doesn't want his checks to stop coming in.

Dude...normal commentators make assumptions ALL THE TIME.

Do people here work for a living? People make mistakes all the freaking time.

Why this is the hill so many want to die on baffles my pee brain.

When it comes to broadcasting and tv, being able to speak clearly and confidently with some charisma is far more important than deep research. He's a color guy for a NBA team. He isn't a journalist for NYT

If" it was done on purpose, that purpose is to denigrate a black player, alluding to his father by an offensive stereotype of a murderous black thug from the ghetto. That’s unacceptable if done on purpose; way beyond any PC-crap and wrist-wringing over nothing.

This thread here is not going to determine intent by just spewing hot opinions. People are again starting to get after each other here, without any basis in fact.

this matter should be investigated by the NBA, to find additional evidence on whether it was intentional or a goofy mistake. Look at the guy’s background, look into his game prep, interview people around him to figure out what he knew about KPJ, what his views are etc. Those of you saying it was a goof, may change their mind if the guy was posting on White Supremacy sites, for example. Or those who think it was premeditated may feel silly if the guy turns out to be a lovable slightly-demented goof with a heart of gold a la Worell.
This just needs to be looked into, that;s all…

I'm fairly certain that everyone agrees the guy shouldn't have just assumed, and if he wanted to make a comment like that, he should have researched it.

But the main point of this thread discusses if what he said, was intended to be malicious and purposefully hurtful. Personally, I don't think it was and that he was, in fact, just lazy.

I don't think the odds of him posting on white supremacy sites are that high since he is Jewish. White supremacy Trump supporters almost hate Jews as much as they hate Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.

Yes, yes, because he's rich, it's okay that his family issues are being cast into the light, right?. He'll just get over it because he has money, right? No need to worry about the most mercurial player in the NBA, aside from Kyrie and Westbrook, right?

No one is asking you to care about KPJ, but if you care more about this announcer, maybe you should go to a Wizards forum and speak up for him. And it seems like you're more hurt by the 'attention' KPJ is getting, than by KPJ is, about this whole situation.

What do you mean, given too much attention? There's 17 players on the official roster page. Feel free to start threads on any one of them, since you don't want to talk about KPJ too much. That, or don't go into a thread about KPJ and add to the post count. There are plenty of ways you don't have to give 'too much attention time and time after' to KPJ.

Also, notice that this thread is barely about KPJ and/or his father. It's like 85% about the Wizards announcer, 10% LeBron's tweet and eventual media fallout, and 5% KPJ.

Weird take followed by another weird take. Keep 'em coming.

Yeah, end of story here. To think this was all intentional you'd have to think the broadcaster decided to say on-air that there is a "right time" to "pull the trigger" and kill a 14 year old girl. That is just not believable
