I’m on the east coast and the Sonics near us have had supply chain issues with a ton of stuff. Stopped by recently and they said they could not make any limeades due to being out of soda. I don’t know if this meant they were out of carbonated beverages or Sprite.
I had a similar experience with some crab cakes here in Marble Falls last night. Will vent later. Astros now.
Beercan is for scale only So my Mom and her Manfriend are in town yesterday, want to go to dinner. There's this seafood place out by Horseshoe Bay that has allegedly been really good (they opened before Covid, had to shut down, now open again). I'm watching the Stros so I say, no thanks, good to hang out with you guys, but if you want to bring me anything back, let's try some crab cakes. $18 appetizer, which is legit if they are legit crab cakes, right? I get 3 of these Sysco ****s brought back, Zero Crab, it's a flat hushpuppy with, did I mention ZERO CRAB? Ate half of one, said "these suck". If I had been in the restaurant I would have sent them back to the kitchen, which is something I've done maybe four times in my life. Tonight I just tore up one of the other 2, and I **** you not, the stray cat I feed scraps to just looked at it, smelled it, and laid back down. Wouldn't eat it, it's still there on the carport. I am angry at this place, like you are angry at your onion rings: https://www.lestourgeonseafoodcompany.com/
A polite but strongly worded message has been sent via their website. *This* is what a proper crab cake is supposed to look like. Now I'm determined to make these sometime this week: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/maryland-crab-cakes/
The best crabcake I've ever had was in Maryland back in 2010. It was the size of a filet mignon. Haven't found an equivalent anywhere else since.
Same. This chic whose recipe I posted is a Maryland native, that's why I'm trying her recipe. They sure look legit.
You know what? I love to cook, and this could be fun and cheap. I have a terrace on the 7th floor here and I'd be willing to do an onion ring party here. I know how to fry shi... stuff. If y'all are interested, I'll buy and fry. Y'all just BYOB. And it's a great view of Houston.
Yeah, I don't think you can hardly buy a real crab cake at a restaurant anymore. You have to make them at home, if you've got the moxie.
Even so the crabcake at restaurants pale in comparison to the one I had in Maryland. Like it was an actual entree/meal and not just an appetizer. The size was a plus and a surprise but the quality of the crabmeat and how it was made...pure perfection.
I miss Backstreet Cafe. Whenever we come back to visit my mom in NW Houston I would take my wife down there.
