So I noticed several trade exemptions were about to expire soon. (Check out at @BimaThug 's twitter)

It got me thinking about a certain Houston area rapper who might fit into some of those trade slots before they expire.

So I put together a list (from tradenba site and have not been verified) of exceptions, amounts, and when they expire

Just a reminder.. back surgery… rehab… lots of time on my hands.

I could see House headed to BOS today. He would be a good bench player and he fits into their TPE which expires today

Also, I think there will be a huge trade this week.

I predict Buddy Hield headed to OKC for three 1st round picks

    Trade Exceptions

    BOS $4.7M (8/1)

    POR $1.7M (8/2)

    UTH $2M (8/6)

    UTH $5M (8/6)

    DEN $5.3 (8/6)

    IND $2.8M (8/9)

    OKC $27M (8/9)

    OKC $1.5M (8/9)

    OKC $10M (8/9)

    HOU $2.1M (8/11)

    PHI $8.1M (9/7)

    HOU $5M (11/20)

    IND $4.7M (11/22)

    CLE $1.7M (11/27)

    DET $1.9M (12/18)

    MIA $12.8M (2/3)

    MIL $1.6M (2/4)

    HOU $1.7M (2/5)

    MIL $4.8M (2/7)

    LAC $2M (2/8)

    DEN $1.6M (2/11)

    POR $1.6M (2/11)

    HOU $8.1M (2/11)

    OKC $9.5M (2/11)

    BOS $5.1M (2/11)

    CLE $4.2M (2/11)

    DEN $2.1M (2/11)

    GSW $1.8M (2/11)

    GSW $2.2M (2/11)

    NOP $3.8M (2/11)

    SAC $3.6M (2/11)

    SAC $2M (2/11)

    CHI $2.4M (2/11)

    WSH $2.1M (2/11)

    TOR $1.5M (2/11)

    TOR $1.5M (2/11)

    ORL $17.1M (2/11)

    ORL $2M (2/11)

    ORL $4.2M (2/11)

    DAL $1.6M (2/11)

    BOS $6.8M (5/17)

    UTH $9M

Have fun and take your own guesses! Please share so I can have something to read

I am also working on my pre-free agency thoughts because... because I am... lol... these meds are GREAT

Why would OKC trade FRPs for Hield?

They don't seem to have a direction and Presti needs a splash move.

Hield is from midwest (via Bahamas), played at UoO, and might be one of the few players who wants to go to OKC.

After the Lakers debacle, I think you pretty much have to move him at this moment if you're Sac-town.

The picks could be the "lower of" variety (e.g. OKC has rights to picks 7 & 21, Sac gets 21).

Also, it clears nearly $24M off of Sac's books and they now have a $20M TE that expires in August of next year.

    win - win - win

They very clearly have a direction which is to try and stock pile first round picks until they can either draft a superstar or land a superstar to build around

How's that working out for them so far? They might have shot their load when they had Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka, & Durant.

If I am OKC fan, I am at the WTF stage of fandom... esp. when they traded 16 to us for what could turn out to be two medium-sih 1st rounders or 4 2nd rounders.

Hield would excite their fan base. And as i pointed out above.. if those 3 picks become picks 18, 24, and 17 in 3 different drafts... that's a win. The $20M TPE for Sac-town allows them to hunt for a vet who can help their team. That's a win. Better basketball in the NBA is a win.

    win - win - win

can you update this to show how much money teams have under the tax? it would put the TE's in context for example would spending the entire TE in Boston, Utah, or phily put them over the tax? if so how much can they spend of it before hitting the tax? I know I could look it up but you said you have lots of time on your hands :)

The vast majority of trade exceptions simply expire without being used. I wouldn’t read too much into their upcoming expiration as a reason they will be used.

Adding Heild does nothing to hinder that plan.

That would not be a today, broski... lol

Spotrac has a manage a team feature which may get you close to what you seek https://www.spotrac.com/nba/manage/

The bad part of it... it DOES NOT include trade exceptions

That is true.... Rox are a great example... but if OKC lets a $27M TE go to waste... they need to fire Presti

Trading first round picks doesn't hinder their ability to stock pile first round picks?

OKC is about $30m under the cap. There's a very good chance that they don't use any exceptions.

 You a real one @aelliott . I was trying to get an accurate measure of each team's cap space, but it was turning out to be more difficult than i anticipated. Will have more clarity tonight as offers are made or declined.

Still think it is a waste of their resources... I am sure Presti has a plan, but lord knows what it is :p

So you asked about space under the tax & trade exemptions...
Here is a page where you can see teams and whether or not they are in luxury tax territory
    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/tax/2021/

And you can look above to see the exceptions!

I think that answered your question. If not.... I tried

Pure cap space is a vastly more valuable resource than TPE’s...and you are not allowed to have both a TPE and maximum capspace at the same time.

The TPE counts against your cap until you rescind it, or let it expire.

everything you can do with a TPE you can do with the salary equivalent of cap space.

I’d go so far to say, unless you have other exceptions like a Bird Exception that you plan to use, if you have cap space as large as your TPE, you’d never use the TPE ... you just trade into your capspace. But you’d never make that trade just for the sake of it, merely bc you have a TPE that you don’t want to waste ... you’d preserve your capspace instead.
